5. Benedictine vs. Orange
Division II Stow district
It’s been a special season for Benedictine to get back to its winning ways, but Wednesday’s game with Orange will be tricky. The Bengals have not played well lately as they have lost two of their last three games and have a habit of playing close games. Meanwhile, Orange is playing much better in the second half of the season and just trounced Chagrin Falls in a road sectional final win.
4. Medina vs. Stow
Division I Copley district
After an up-and-down regular season, Medina is looking to repeat history from last year and surprise with a district win. The Bees are playing well, as three of their last four wins have been against Elyria, Mentor and Walsh Jesuit. As for Stow, the Bulldogs are at their best when their defense fuels their offense. Stow just picked up a road win over rival Hudson and has lost just twice since Jan. 8.
3. Brunswick vs. Archbishop Hoban
Division I Copley district
Not much separates these two teams, and this should be a really close one. Brunswick won the Greater Cleveland Conference and seems to have the perfect game plan against any team. Hoban has looked as good as any team at times this year, although the Knights have struggled a bit lately. Brunswick is expected to win, but it won’t be easy.
2. Copley vs. Uniontown Lake
Division I Alliance district
This will be the first real test this season for undefeated Copley. The Indians haven’t just gone undefeated, but they have dominated nearly all their opponents this season. But Lake is a different animal. The Blue Streaks have been a perennial regional team over the last few seasons and have postseason experience that Copley does not.
1. Cleveland Central Catholic vs. East Tech
Division II Stow district
Let’s start with the teams. Both the Ironmen and Scarabs are talented enough to make it to Columbus. Now the players. Central Catholic senior Tervell Beck and East Tech junior Markell Johnson are two of the best players in the state this season. This is one of those cases where a state tournament level game will be played much earlier.
