State Tournament Central
The Class A and B State Tournaments are taking place this weekend in Oklahoma City. Prep Hoops will be bringing the best coverage from the tournaments with recaps, prospect analysis, and video highlights.
Class A State Tournament
First Round
Pond Creek-Hunter vs Stuart Pond Creek-Hunter 71-60
Pond Creek-Hunter out paced Stuart with a victory in the opening round of State. Cole Jones led the way with 22 points for Pond Creek-Hunter. The Panthers will take on OKAY tomorrow at the Big House.
Velma-Alma vs OKAY OKAY 68-47
OKAY had no trouble with Velma-Alma behind the terrific shooting performance from Darius Riggs. Riggs scored 21 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor. He is just a junior and certainly a prospect to keep an eye on. OKAY will face Pond Creek-Hunter tomorrow.
Fort Cobb vs Regent Prep Fort Cobb 38-30
Fort Cobb withstood a great defensive game from Regent Prep. Greyden Steinmetz led the way with 21 of Fort Cobb’s 38 points. Regent Prep slowed down the game all night. Fort Cobb advances to the semifinals at 1:30pm on Friday.
Seiling vs Rattan Seiling 49-41
Seiling rallied late to get the victory despite the tremendous performance from Toche Taylor. Taylor ended the night with a game high 23 points. Seiling was led by 2018 Guard Brevin Nyberg with 16 points. Tomorrow Seiling will face Fort Cobb at 1:30pm.
Class B State Tournament
First Round
Boswell vs Leedey Leedey 63-53
Leedey is the favorite on their side of the bracket and they showed why with a big game against Boswell. Leedey shared the ball at a high level leading to open looks. Many have Leedey meeting powerhouse Red Oak in the finals. Leedey will face LeFlore tomorrow for a chance to possibly meet Red Oak in the finals.
Kinta vs Boise City Kinta 53-52
The Kinta Eagles and Boise City Wildcats met at the new Mustang Event Center for Class State Semifinal action. Within the opening minutes the game appeared to be well on its way to a blow out win in favor of Kinta but the Wildcats were able to hang around 2016 Shooting Guard Jaedon Whitfield was the best offensive option for Boise City and he had it going all night in the pain and from the perimeter. Ultimately, the dynamic duo of Kinta’s 2017 Point Guard Brett Williams and 2017 Small Forward Justin Pile were able to squeeze out a one point victory, 53-52. Whitfield had a great performance in his final game notching 29 points and leading his teams comeback. Kinta will advance to the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds for semifinals action tomorrow.
Red Oak vs Duke Red Oak 78-34
Red Oak entered the State Tournament as the highest seeded team and they flexed their muscles all over Duke. In a dominant 78-34 victory, the Red Oak Eagles were well rounded and showed their depth. 2016 Red Oak point guard Brad Davis was unstoppable in every area of the game. He struggled to get started but was on fire once he got it going. Davis finish with 22 point and his Eagles will go on to face Kinta tomorrow in the semifinals.
LeFlore vs Hammon LeFlore 43-30
In the final game of the Class B Quarterfinals the Hammon Warriors and Leflore Savages played for the final spot in the semifinals. Both teams went back and forth in the early going but the size of Leflore proved to be a problem for the opposition. 2017 Leflore Center Daniel Rodriguez stands at 6’10 and was a match up nightmare for the Warriors. He and the Warriors were able to seal the victory with a balanced attack and advance to State Tournament semifinal action tomorrow where they will take on the Leedey Bison.
