“I received calls from Samford, Loyola-Maryland, William & Mary, Northern Kentucky, and Lipscomb. And I’ve talked to William & Mary and Loyola recently, and might be making visits in the near future,” said the 6-foot-3 point guard.
“I would say Loyola-Maryland and William & Mary are the two closest to offering, they’re showing the most interest.”
With his junior season recently ending, Johnson is shifting his focus to his ever-important 17U season.
“Obviously my goal is to play at the D1 level, so I’m hoping over the summer I’m able to receive a few D1 offers. And if not, I’ll just keep working.”
Last season the talented junior — Kentucky’s 17th-ranked 2017 — played with Kentucky Grind, and he says though others are in pursuit of him, he’ll try and make it work with Grind again.
“The Hoops Dreams coach asked me to play, but I already committed to Kentucky Grind,” said Johnson. “And it worked out for me well last summer — so that’s who I’ll stick with.”
Johnson described his style of play as a quintessential point guard — one which sets his teammates up for success.
“I feel like one of the best things about me is I get others involved. And as a point guard I felt like I was making others better when I played,” said Johnson.
“I consider myself a pretty good passer, and a pretty good ball-handler. And I’m pretty good at decision-making, as well as not turning the ball over very much.”
