Continue ReadingMason Harrell and Trey Hopkins have started since their freshmen season at Carl Albert. Although, they are just sophomores they play like seasoned seniors. Right before our eyes Hopkins and Harrell are becoming one of the best duo’s in the state.
Today, the duo played in their second straight Class 5A State Championship game against Tulsa Memorial. Last year Lawton Ike defeated the Titans, but this time Hopkins and Harrell were not going to let that happen.
Harrell hit the buzzer beater a season ago in the Class 5A Semifinals against Tulsa Memorial to lift them to the title game. This time around it was Hopkins turn to sink the buzzer beater. With the clock winding down and the score tied Hopkins gathered the rebound off of a miss from Quavon Pearson and scored with a shot off the glass as the clock expired.
Hopkins was stellar for the Titans scoring a game high 24 points on 9-19 shooting from the floor. Harrell was not to shabby himself scoring 21 points on 6-16 shooting. Both have the ability to create offense off of the dribble. Hopkins is a freak athlete that has Division I written all over his game.
Harrell has instincts you can not teach at the Point. The only question about Harrell’s game is if he will grow. He stands at 5’7″, which makes some think twice. However, he is the type of player that is a difference maker. Harrell is an absolute gamer. It will be interesting to see if he grows and how colleges perceive him.
One thing is for certain, Hopkins and Harrell are just getting started. The two have a chance to make history and with three Gold Balls in a row. As Hopkins said after the win “We will be back.” They might have just started a dynasty today.
Keep an eye out for Harrell and Hopkins this summer on the shoe circuit. Harrell will play in the Nike EYBL with Team Griffin. Hopkins will be playing in the Under Armor Association with Oklahoma Run PWP.
