Quarterfinal Games
Pawnee vs Wright City 1:30pm
Talihina vs Northeast 3:30pm
Preston vs Carnegie 7:00pm
Crossing Christian vs Wewoka 8:30pm
The most interesting first round match up is Talihina vs Northeast. The two enter the game ranked #11 and #9. Northeast is very athletic and quick and will give Talihina trouble. My Quarterfinal picks to advance are Pawnee, Northeast, Preston, and Wewoka.
The Semifinals would be very interesting if Preston and Pawnee both win it would set up a game with #1 Preston taking on #2 Pawnee. It is the matchup many saw coming in the championship game, but it will come a little earlier. The other side of the bracket would present a game between #9 Northeast and #3 Wewoka. My Semifinal picks have one upset taking place. I have Northeast upsetting the defending champions Wewoka and Preston defeating Pawnee.
The Championship game of Preston and Northeast would be a great game. I have Preston winning it all behind the play of Jaden Huffman and Kobe Goodman.
Players to Watch
Gideon Gardner 2016 Pawnee Shooting Guard
Gardner is one of the most overlooked prospects in Oklahoma because of where he plays possibly? Gardner is a knock down shooter that stands 6’2″ at the two guard. If you are looking for scoring he is the one to watch. He has had a tremendous season at Pawnee leading them to a #2 ranking and a state tournament appearance. Gardner will have a chance to open some eyes up this weekend at the Big House.
Kobe Goodman 2017 Preston Forward
Goodman is an undersized post with a wide frame that can do multiple things that attract college coaches. He is a good scorer around the basket and at times can even knock down some jumpers from around 15 feet. He rebounds the basketball at a very high level. If Preston is going to win the Gold Ball Goodman will have to have a big weekend.
Jadon Huffman 2016 Preston Shooting Guard
Huffman has been outstanding this season scoring the basketball at a high level. He has been very key in Preston’s run to the state tournament. He stands about 6’2″ and is really long and athletic. Huffman has a couple of JUCO’s recruiting him hard.
Marquis Edwards 2016 Northeast Guard
Edwards will open some eyes with his athleticism, ability to score, and leadership on the court for Northeast. He is a big time scorer, but what he is best at is making his teammates around him better. At the next level Edwards could end up JUCO or at an NAIA program.
