“I started getting some letters and some calls last spring; Army, Navy, and Air Force have all called and sent letters. And Air Force and Army came and watched me work out and practice. Wofford has been in contact a lot, and Southeastern Missouri, and Lipscomb too. I also just visited Austin Peay before the season started,” said Spurlock.
“I’ve had some D2 and NAIA schools around the area that have come to watch me play. But I’d say Wofford, Navy, Air Force, and Southeastern Missouri have been the most interested so far.”
Ultimately Spurlock’s main concern is finding a school that’s the right fit for him.
“It’s (recruitment) a decent concern with me, he said. “I try and use it as motivation, and I hope it all comes together, and I can find a school that really fits me, and that I really enjoy going to,”
After playing with Charlotte Court 17U last season, Spurlock will spend his 17U season with MATTS Mustangs.
“They asked me to come work out for them before the season and I really liked the coach, and they have some really good players on that team, and some guys that I like,” said Spurlock, who defined his playing style to PHK.
“I think I’m just a good hybrid wing. I can shoot pretty good and I’m a decent slasher. I try and stretch the floor at and shoot it the best I can.”
“Last year I was more of a mid-range guy, but I really worked on my game and I’m much more comfortable out on the 3-point line this year.”
“What I really need to work on is my strength and my jumping.”
After averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds during the regular season, Spurlock reflected on what his role was as a junior.
“My role on the team was just to do a little bit of everything,” he said. “I had to rebound for us, I had to score, and I had to lock-down on defense each night out. I just had to do a little bit of everything for us.”
