Currently ranked No. 51 in 2017, McDaniel — who transferred into Louisville Collegiate from St. Xavier — has seen little recruitment come his way so far.
He played with the Louisville Spartans last summer, and he doesn’t know who he’ll play with this spring and summer yet – he’s just hoping to gain some exposure.
“Last year I didn’t really get a lot of recruitment, but I did get some interest last summer. We had a team camp at Lipscomb, and their coach was interested. Bellarmine has shown interest also, and those are the two so far – they’ve (Bellamine) just been coming to a bunch of my games,” said McDaniel.
“This is a big summer for me, and I’m really looking forward to getting myself and my name out there. So I’m really excited for AAU and everything to start up.”
McDaniel explained to PHK why it was he decided to transfer out of St. Xavier, and into Louisville Collegiate.
“The reason I transferred was because Tim Gray took the job here (Collegiate),” said McDaniel. “And it was just a better fit for me academically, and socially. And from an athletic standpoint I’ve known Tim for five years – he trained me – so I just felt it was a better fit for me.”
A very good-sized and versatile threat, McDaniel says he’s more comfortable on the perimeter, and that’s where he’s working to develop moist right now.
“I can play inside-out, I have the ability to knock down a 3, handle the ball, and take people in the post and score on them. I feel more comfortable on the perimeter and I definitely see myself being able to take advantage of smaller defenders on the perimeter at the next level,” said McDaniel, who mentioned what it is he’d like to see improve.
“I just want to work on my overall athleticism; speed, quickness – just that overall aspect.”
The junior is averaging 15 points per game this season with the Titans, and says his role is to be a leader, and do a little bit of everything for the team.
“Night-in and night-out I’m just out there being a leader on the floor, just trying to settle our guys down,” said McDaniel. “Obviously I need to score for us, and I just do a lot of different things on the floor with my versatility.”
