The 6-foot-1 junior currently holds no offers, but he feels one school is very close – and others are inquiring.
“Indiana Wesleyan has the most interest in me, they came and watched me last week and I had a pretty good game. They will probably be offering soon, the assistant coach was going to go back and talk to the head coach, and I’ve been on a visit there,” said Blair, who will play with MATTS Mustangs this season.
“Other schools that have had interest in me are Pikesville, they’re here close, and Marshall came and watched me during AAU last year and I talked to their coach. And Alice Lloyd College, and the Cedarville (OH) too.”
Even with the wide-range of interested programs, Blair — PHK’s 48th-ranked 2017 — feels that he’s flying under radar right now.
“Hopefully I have a good AAU season and I can get some people’s attention. I’m really surprised that I haven’t been looked at more, and I’m sure a lot of other kids think that too, but I think the looks will come,” said Blair.
“Most people just look at me and see a small white guy in the mountains that can shoot the ball. I think a lot of people just look at me as just a shooter, that can’t do much else. But I’m working on my all-around game, and I’m just going to try and impress some people this summer.”
He went on to define his playing style – strengths and weaknesses.
“My scoring ability mainly on the outside is what I’m best at. I’m trying to get better at attacking the basket more, but mainly I’m just a knock-down shooter off the dribble, or spotting up,” he said.
“I need to work on my defense a little bit, and my footwork. I’m actually pretty athletic, but I get kind of lazy sometimes with my footwork on defense. So I need to work on that during AAU season when we play man-to-man, in high school season we play zone.”
Blair is averaging 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game during his junior season with Johnson Central – he’s doing his job well.
“I’m our team’s main piece, and leader,” he said.” And I know every night out all the pressure is on my shoulders, and I need to get out there and lead the team in scoring, and steals, and get in there and get rebounds and just do whatever I can to help us win.”
