He’ll play with Hoop Dreams to finish out his grassroots career, and is hoping to add some interest, and pick up his first offer, and more.
“I’ve heard from a lot of small schools like St. Catherine, and Kentucky Wesleyan, and I visited Marshall once. That’s pretty much it for now, hopefully it picks up a little bit more this summer,” said James.
“I’ve gotten texts from St Catharine, and Kentucky Wesleyan has been at a couple of my games. And the Marshall assistant coach talks to my head coach a lot, so that’s how I got hooked up with them.”
James — PHK’s 46th-ranked 2017 — says he’ll continue to focus on his junior season for the time-being, but he hopes to see his interest from college coaches spike this summer.
“I haven’t really worried too much about it, I’m focused on competing and winning the region here at Mercer and I just hope it (recruitment) starts to pick up more this summer,” said James, who explained his style of play.
“I think I’m best with my offensive skill set, I can post you up and I can take you outside. My biggest strength is my 3-point shooting, I think that’s what will get me to play at the next level,” said James.
“I really need to work on my defense and ball-handling, and I’m continuing to work on those things.”
As his junior season at Mercer starts to come to its finish, James reflected on his first year with the school — he was with Sheldon Clark in year’s past.
“They (Mercer) offered my dad a principal job down here, so that’s why we’ve moved, and it’s been good. We’ve had a really good year,” said James.
“It’s been really good, my individual stats have gone down this year, but I’m playing with a really great team so I’m not complaining.”
