Continue ReadingAnthony Wales has visited four colleges. He shared with PrepHoops.com what he thought about Eastern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, Samford, and Louisville.
“With Samford I like how the coaches really met my family,” said Wales. “We got to talk with them for a couple hours. They gave us three things: need, want, and fit. They said if you fit into those three things it would be a good school for you. If not, then it wouldn’t be.”
Of all his schools of interest, Samford clearly showed him the most love thus far.
“They said we could help them if win conference titles if we came there,” said Wales. “I like how (Coach Padgett) has passion for the game. He doesn’t show favoritism. He gives everybody an opportunity. He sat down with our family. Most of the other coaches don’t do that.”
At this point Wales is searching for more offers, but loves the Samford push. He also checked out WKU and EKU.
“He went with his grandfather when he went to those two,” said father Antwuan Satterfield. “I had to work when he visited those two.”
During the successful season Wales had prior to his injury (see below) he was evaluated by coaches from two college teams.
“EKU came,” said Satterfield. “Samford has been there a lot. Louisville came to Kings of Bluegrass. That is pretty much it.”
The Eastern Kentucky basketball staff gave a strong presentation to Wales too.
“I saw how they take education very seriously,” said Wales.
The guard loves the team’s tempo and ability to score quickly. Also, he sees himself as meshing easily with the Colonels’ defensive principles.
EKU Head Coach Dan McHale is in his first year at the helm. Truthfully his coaching staff is still trying to instill a defensive concept. During the regular season they rank last in points allowed (79.1 per).
To be fair they do generate more possessions than most. Still the numbers are the numbers.
The Western Kentucky visit was more brief and less personal. Of all the schools involved early WKU has the most ground to make up.
Strained
For the first time in his high school career Anthony Wales has to sit.
The blisteringly fast Wales sat Friday night as his Fern Creek Tigers dethroned Bullitt East High School for the 24th District Championship. Close friend and teammate Ahmad Price lead the way in victory.
Wales is letting his body heal from a sports hernia sustained earlier this prep season. He will return to the game and his AAU program (The Travelers) in a couple months.
A sophomore, Wales is enjoying a few early nibbles from the recruiting world. With a strong 16u AAU campaign he will have much more to eat.
