Continue ReadingPrep Hoops was on hand for a top five clash in Class 4A on Friday night with #1 Harrah taking on #5 Ada. The game did not disappoint. Ada got off to a red hot start to take a sizable lead after one quarter of play.
However, Harrah bounced back in the second quarter to take a 29-21 lead into the locker room. The Panthers never looked back silencing the crowd with a double-digit victory over Ada 67-55 on the road.
Prep Hoops breaks down the players performances each team below.
Harrah
Dylan Saxton 2016 Small Forward 6’6″
Saxton was the surprise of the night off the bench for Harrah. Saxton shot the ball very well from three-point and mid-range. He could be a nice stretch four for an NAIA program, possibly even a three at times.
Carlos Slaughter 2017 Shooting Guard 6’4″
He is a great athlete that can play above the rim with his athleticism. Slaughter can take his opponent out of the game with his tough defense. Slaughter should get some looks from small colleges in the region.
Brady Manek 2017 Small Forward 6’9″ (Committed to Oklahoma)
He was great at rebounding the basketball in the paint. Brady struggled to find his shot in the early going. In the second quarter he hit a big three-pointer and followed it up with a monster dunk to get him going. Once Manek got going there was no stopping him.
Kellen Manek 2016 Power Forward 6’7″ (Signed to ORU)
Shot the ball well from the floor and showed off a nice jumper from around the three point line. Manek also had success driving to the basket. He was huge for Harrah rebounding the ball at a very high level. Manek said he was about 70% healthy after the game.
Garrett Pearson 2016 Point Guard 6’2″
Pearson ran the point and was the floor general for the Panthers. He didn’t have a big night scoring the basketball, but was key for the Panthers handling the ball and setting up his teammates. He has a smooth three-point shot.
Braden Jennings 2016 Point Guard 6’0″
He has quick hands and gathered several steals on the night. Jennings turned great defense into offense thriving in transition. He has a tight handle and uses his quickness to get to the rim.
Ada
Kobe Burgess 2019 Shooting Guard 6’0″
Scored the ball well in traffic around the rim. On defense Burgess had quick hands and plays extremely hard. Burgess had an off night by his standards, but still was able to have a positive effect on the game. He has a bright future.
Jermaine Lawson 2016 Point Guard 5’9″
Lawson got the rim with his quickness and finished strong. He needs to make a little better decisions at times on the court with the rock in his hands.
Ben Pruitt 2017 Shooting Guard 6’5″
Got off to a fast start knocking down a pair of three-point baskets. Once defenders started to crowd him on the perimeter he drove the ball to the basket. He was the key for Cougars offense throughout the night. Pruitt is a rising star in the 2017 Class.
Vaughn Appleman 2017 Power Forward 6’8″
Appleman was a key presence inside for Ada protecting the rim against Harrah’s size. On offense Appleman showed off a nice jumper from 12-15 feet. He has a big time back to the basket game with tons of upside. Appleman will get looks for Football, but he should receive some big time looks for hoops this summer.
Montie Carpitcher 2016 Shooting Guard 5’11”
He hit a couple of big time three pointers in the corner for Ada. Carpitcher is a spot up shooter that can be key for Ada down the road. Every team needs a role player like Carpitcher.
