Lambert has had a great senior season at Owasso leading the team with Shake Milton graduating and moving on to SMU. Speight has shown great leadership at Putnam City North this season leading the Panthers to host a regional for the first time in quite a while.
Lambert is receiving tons of interest from Division II programs in Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and Kansas. A couple of Low Major D1 programs have reached out to Lambert throughout the recruiting process as well. He stands at 6’4″ with a decent handle of the rock. Lambert can run the point or play off the ball on the wing. He has an extremely high basketball IQ, great athleticism that will surprise you, and quickness to blow past defenders to the rim.
If there is an area Lambert needs to improve it is his outside jumper, which earlier in his career he shot extremely well, but has struggled at times recently. Lambert has the ability to shoot the basketball at a very high level he just needs to find his shot again. Lambert was impressive on Tuesday night shooting the basketball well scoring a game high 38 points to lead Owasso to a narrow victory over Bixby. When Lambert plays with confidence he is easily one of the best players in the state.
This season Lambert is 20.6 points per game, 8 rebounds, and 4 assist, which are all career highs. Lambert has taken the mantle of the leader for Owasso very well this season. He is great on and off the court. Owasso Head Coach Mark Vancuren speaks very highly of Lambert. He will decide after the season if he will go to prep school for a year or choose from one of the offers he has on the table.
Speight has been terrific this season for Putnam City North. He makes his teammates better at the Point with his ability to score, distribute, and create with the basketball in his hands. Despite, being a terrific scorer on a team not loaded with talent Speight plays very unselfish, which elevates his teammates. On and off the court Speight has a great work ethic. Several Division I programs have shown great interest in Speight including Oral Roberts, Abilene Christian, and Murray State to name a few. He has zero Division I offers, but that could change very soon. Speight holds offers from nearly every Division II school in the region.
This season Speight led Putnam City North to win the Putnam City Invitational (He was named MVP) and to host a regional. Both have not been done in quite some time at Putnam City North. This week Speight was presented with a basketball to celebrate scoring 1,000 points for his career. Speight is a winner that does everything in his power to lead his team to victory.
If there is one question about Speight at the next level it is his size at 5’11.” However, I think Speight has more than answered the question of is he big enough to be a Division I guard. This past summer Speight proved his worth with Athletes First on the Nike EYBL Circuit. This season at Putnam City North he has dominated, especially in big games. Speight is a top flight competitor and takes every game as a challenge to go out and prove himself. Putnam City North Head Coach Ryan Wagner was nothing, but great things to say about his star Point Guard.
Speight and Lambert are two of the top guards in the 2016 Oklahoma class that remain available. What ever college program lands Lambert and Speight will get not only a good basketball player, but a great player off the court as well.
