The Little Cyclones, who have now won four of their past five games, got 19 points from senior Colby Shane and 12 from sophomore Joe Evans.
Ames jumped out to a quick double-digit lead in the first quarter and built it to 20 by midway through the second. The Indians, though, fought through the adversity in the second and third quarters, nearly cutting into Ames’ lead enough to make it single digits until a 23-0 run by the Little Cyclones bridged between the third and fourth quarter put the game away.

Indianola Player Evals
2019 Evan Gauger, 6′ G
The talented freshman had a quiet night, attempting just two shots on the night. Still, it’s clear he’s a solid ballhandler with plenty of basketball IQ that makes him a solid young prospect going forward.
2016 Graham Sandquist, 6’5 F
Sandquist has nice size and pretty good footwork. He opened the game with a really nice move that created space under the basket and finished with a nifty reverse layup. He plays with a good motor, but would like to see him be a little more active on the boards given his size and strength.
2016 Schaefer Orwig, 6′ G
Orwig came off the bench and made a big impact, hitting four of five shots from the field, including his only 3-point attempt. He’s active on the boards for his size and position as well.
Ames Player Evals
2017 Eric Steyer, 6’4 G
Steyer’s calling card is his shot, and it was on display against the Indians. He’s such a good shooter, I think he could stand to be a little more liberal with letting it fly, but he declines sometimes to move the ball quickly, which is a good second option. He also showed off a really nice counter to his 3-point shot, ball faking, putting it on the deck and connecting on a pretty running floater off the glass.
2016 Colby Shane, 6’3 G
The off-guard was on his game this night. Shane connected on five 3-pointers and showed great decisiveness when getting the ball and pulling the trigger. He was solid on defense as well, showing off plenty of lateral quickness that makes him a capable on-ball defender.
2018 Joe Evans, 6’4 F
Evans showed the most promise of any player on the floor Tuesday night, showing a great motor and plenty of ballskills. He was extremely active on the offensive boards, coming down with five rebounds on that end and usually turning those into buckets. He’s undersized for a forward, but if he gets a little taller, he could be a very, very intriguing prospect.
2017 Chuol Chuol, 6’2 G
The lanky, long guard has tons of athleticism and heaps of skill around the basket too. He’s aggressive to the rim and knows how to finish when he gets there, displaying the ability to use both hands creatively. He used his length well to play passing lanes and spark transition offense, as well.
