The 5-foot-11 prospect is playing mostly point guard with his new team, putting up some nice numbers, and generating some Division I interest in the process.
“The main ones recruiting me are Samford University, Western Kentucky, and also Loyola in Maryland, and Murray State a little bit – they (Murray State) saw me play a couple times over the summer. It’s mostly just letters, and Samford has actually called me, and so has WKU,” said Wilkerson, who says his focus will shift to recruitment this summer.
“Especially in Kentucky I think I’ll get most of my looks in the summertime. But as far as the basketball season right now, I’m just focused on getting deep in the region, maybe get to state, and keep just doing my thing.”
The talented junior – PHK’s 83rd-ranked 2017 – says his role, on whichever team is playing for, is to be a playmaker.
“It depends whether it’s AAU or high school. But I like to break down my man and score, and break down my man and get a dime to my big man,” said Wilkerson. “I love getting my teammates involved, and I’m a playmaker – offensively and defensively I like to make plays.”
He added: “I just need to work on everything, what’s really improved since the summer is my long-range shooting and my mid-range. I really think I’m an elite ball-handler, I’m just trying to add a shot into my arsenal.”
During his first season with Tigers, Caldwell has been sensational, averaging 16.8 points, 7.4 assists, and 4 rebounds per game.
“I made the transfer because Caldwell was just a better situation, for school as well as basketball. So far it’s been really great. I’ve been playing with them since the summer, and I have a great relationship with the coach,” he said.
“I’m the starting point guard, and I’ve taken on a leadership role. I’m really enjoying it.”
