The Louisville Prospects product has heard from an out-of-state NAIA school, and a in-state Division III program so far.
He says the goal is to start hearing from higher level schools this summer – preferably coastal schools.
“I haven’t had much interest. I have interest from Indiana University Southeast, and then Centre’s coach has sent me letters. That’s really it – there’s not a lot of coaches coming out to my school,” he said.
“I went on a visit to IUS, and went to one of their games. They’re supposed to come to one of my practices to watch soon.”
Burgess added: “My personal opinion is that I’m under the radar a little bit. People kind of sleep on a 6-foot-1 guard, like we’re a dime-a-dozen. So I feel like I’m under the radar from that perspective.”
“The obvious goal is to play at a Division I school. But I just hope to find a school that’s a good fit for me. I want to go to a school down by the beach. And somewhere not close to home, but far away from home. I want to play Division I or Division II basketball – that’s the goal.”
The 6-foot-2 junior went of to explain his playing style to PHK.
“I feel that I have a pretty good shot. I’ve been shooting the ball pretty well this season. I see the floor pretty well, and I think I get long rebounds pretty well for a guard,” said Burgess. “I usually find the open man, and I like to work the ball around and get my teammates involved. And I like to pick my teammates up when they’re not hitting shots, and I just try and be a leader.”
Kentucky’s 62nd-ranked 2017, Burgess says his role on the Colts is to score, assist, and lead.
“From last year my role is completely different. We lost seven seniors, and I’m the only returning varsity player from last year,” said Burgess. “I feel like my team just needs me to come in a hit some shots, get some points on the board, and get some assists. They just look to me to be a leader I guess you could say.”
