West Des Moines Valley woke up in the second half, turning up the defensive intensity as they blew open a 6-point halftime lead and turned it into a 31-point blowout, as the Tigers won 76-45 on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo.
With a 10-point lead late in the first half, Valley gave up a 9-0 spurt to Waterloo East, cutting the lead down to one. The Tigers grabbed momentum back right before the half with a 5-0 run heading into the locker room.
The second half was domination on both ends of the floor by Valley, outscoring East 44-19, and looking every bit the part of a serious contender in Class 4A.
Carlo Marble led Valley (4-0) with 19 points, going 5-8 from behind the arc. Turner Scott added 14 points and six assists, and Quinton Curry had 13 points.
Waterloo East (2-2) was led by Carlton Todd, who scored 10 points off the bench. Avree Clark added nine points and Isaiah Wade had eight points and six rebounds.
