Game Summary
Camden Vander Zwaag scored 13 in the second half, and eight straight at one point in the fourth quarter to will his Dragons to a come-from-behind 69-66 win over a reeling Southeast Polk team.
The sophomore sharpshooter gave the Dragons (2-4) their first lead of the game at the four minute mark in the final frame with consecutive 3s, and the Dragons were able to hold that lead and come away with their second win of the season.
We currently do not have Vander Zwaag ranked in 2018 rankings at Prep Hoops Iowa, that will certainly change in next installment #iahsbkb

Johnston senior guard Jared Bacon led all scorers in the game with 24, and he connected on six 3-pointers. Garrett Northway led the Rams (1-5) with 21 points, senior guard Keegan Van Kooten added 20.
It was a very slow start for the Dragons, who were down 12-0 early, but then a slow and steady comeback came to a boil with Vander Zwaag’s fourth quarter heroics.

“We didn’t come out ready to play like I’d hoped, we didn’t execute our game plan in the first half as well as we’d hoped,” Johnston coach Bobby Sandquist said. “Our kids hung in there, they persevered, they believed. And Camden Vander Zwaag hit some big shots for us and that’s what it’s all about guys stepping up.”

Johnston Player Evals
2017, Grant Kramer, 6’6 SF
A junior with good height and great length, Kramer glided and used long strides to help carry him towards the hoop. He’s a bit timid still, but could turn into a star with added aggressiveness over the next year-and-a-half.
2016, Jared Bacon, 5’11 G
Bacon was sensational tonight, pouring in a game-high 24 points, and connecting on six 3-pointers. He showed an array of offensive moves, and scored in a variety of ways, though the 3-ball was certainly his specialty tonight. He’s a warrior and leader on the floor, handles the ball well, and plays bigger than 5’11. A more-than-serviceable Division III or NAIA prospect.
2017, Jeran Proctor, 5’10 G
Proctor was not used much offensively but he’s a bull defensively, and when the ball is in his hands. He’s a well-built, athletic guard, who will cause fits for opponents defensively over the next two years.
2018, Camden Vander Zwaag, 6’3 G
The youngster stepped-up in big moments, and went on a shooting rampage in the fourth quarter just when his team needed him most. He’s got the physical tools and skills to become a star over the next three seasons.
SE Polk Player Evals
2016, Garrett Northway, 6’2 G
Northway was good tonight, and he scored a team-high 21 points. He glides well towards the rim when he gets into the lane, and is deceivingly springy. He scores most of his points in the paint at the rim, he has great body control, and is a very skilled and crisp passer.
2017, Jackson Cole, 6′ PG
A more-than-capable point guard, I was very impressed with the junior’s game tonight. He runs the team well, and never forces shots, making his sole priority to get his teammates looks. He penetrates the lane well, and is a solid starting point guard in the CIML.
2016, Keegan Van Kooten, 6′ SG
He’s lethal from mid-range, and if he gets an open 3 the other team shudders. He’s able to get by his defender with great bursts of speed, and handles the ball very well for an off guard. Van Kooten has improved greatly over the last two seasons.
2016, Chris Henderson, 6’3 SF
Like Kramer from Johnston, Henderson is a wiry and rangy wing, with prototypical wing physique. He’s long enough to get off most any shot he wants with a clean look at the hoop. He flashed a couple nice short-range pull-up jumpers in the lane.
