This was as very competitive game that saw Archbishop Wood (PA) lead throughout most of the first half behind their guard play. Though Mountain Ridge trailed at half, they quickly took the lead behind the efforts of senior standout Jay Green. Archbishop Wood was able to regain the lead late in the game and hold off a few quick baskets by Green and his younger brother, Josh, to finish with a 56-54 victory.
Mountain Ridge
Name | Pos | Hgt | Class |
---|---|---|---|
Jay Green | G | 6'5 | 2016 |
Jay had a great game. Despite starting the game slow, he turned it up in the second half completely dominating the game on both ends. He helped Mountain View regain the lead with his ability to rebound on both ends, get in the paint, and put pressure on the defense in transition. Green is a physical guard that is very efficient with his dribble. He gets his shoulder to his defenders hip in order to create straight line drives and has the strength to finish through contact. He also knocked down a mid range shot and a catch and shoot 3. Green is a legit mid major prospect. | |||
Josh Green | G | 6'4 | 2019 |
The freshman guard didn't have the greatest shooting night (2/10 FG) but it is clear that he is ready to claim his spot among the top 2019 prospects in the country. Standing every inch of 6-foot, 4-inches Josh is a confident player with a great feel for the game. Defensively he has a great physical presence and is aggressive on the ball. On the offensive end he's good in transition. In the half court he gets to the paint when he wants and, though he needs to improve his ability to absorb contact and finish through it, he makes tough moves and often ends up at the charity stripe. Green also has the ability to pass over defenses due to his athleticism. There's no doubt he's a high major prospect and it's hard to believe there are many freshmen on the west coast better than him. | |||
Saikou Gueye | SF | 6'5 | 2017 |
Gueye is a prospect with a ton of upside and potential. Best on the perimeter, Saikou was forced to play more in the post which limited his productivity and aggressiveness but he definitely showed tools. Gueye’s ability to grab boards in traffic and push the ball was on display. While he didn’t attempt many shots, he was able to get to the free throw line a couple times on drives. Low major, Division II and NAIA D1 programs should all keep an eye on him. | |||
Jared Rodriguez | PF | 6'7 | 2017 |
Rodriguez is a player that has been inconsistent in the past and, while he wasn’t outstanding on Tuesday, he was very serviceable. The junior forward made his biggest impact on the defensive end, protecting the rim by altering and blocking shots. He was able to get to the free throw line and had one of the best “almost posters” of the night but didn’t finish particularly well around the rim. He did, however, knock in a corner 3. Jared is a player that low major, Division II and NAIA D1 programs should all keep an eye on. | |||
Alex Roth | C | 6'6 | 2016 |
A physical interior presence, Roth had a solid showing. He rebounded well in traffic and played very tough and physical in the paint. He could be worth a Division III look. |
Archbishop Wood (PA)
Name | Pos | Hgt | Class |

Tyree Pickron | SG | 6'3 | 2018 |
Pickron was great on Tuesday. Every time Mountain Ridge got on a roll he would do something to slow them down. Tyree is good in transition and the half court with the ball in his hands as he has an understanding for change of pace. He also finished at the rim with both hands. A low or mid major prospect. | |||
Andrew Funk | G | 6'3 | 2018 |
Funk was very good in Tuesday's matchup with Mountain Ridge and a big key to Archbishop Wood's success. The 6'3" sophomore handled it well and played with confident. He pushed with poise in transition and showed the ability to consistently knock down midrange shots. A player that low and mid Division I programs should look at. | |||
Seth Pinkney | C | 6'10 | 2018 |
Seth is the first person you notice when you walk in the gym. A true 6'10" he is very mobile with extremely long arms. While raw, Pinkney did not try to do too much, simply rebounding, running the floor, and finishing plays at the rim. Certainly worth a low Division-I look. |
