PG Charlie Moore (Morgan Park _ 2016)
The Memphis commit opened with 55 points in their first game. While the state’s top senior didn’t put on quite that performance he was still extremely effective. Moore showed off his tremendous speed with the basketball going from end to end. He is quick and shifty with the rock. The dynamic playmaker is great in the drive and kick finding open shooters when the defense collapses on him. Moore is best scoring with runners in the paint dropping them over bigger defenders and deep threes. The Morgan Park lead guard had 14 points and 5 assists in a Mustang win.
PG Jarrin Randall (Morgan Park _ 2016)
Randall is one of the more underrated prospects in the senior class as Western Michigan got a good one. The 5’11” point guard is a plus shooter especially off the catch from three. Can also pull up and hit the 15-18 foot mid-range jumper. Showed improvement off the bounce with his handles including a slick euro step finish. Very efficient game going for 14 points (5-7 FG).
PF Alonzo Chatman (Morgan Park _ 2016)
Chatman is a 6’7” post that is physically built. He has a strong body and is a quality athlete. He is most effective using his energy around the hoop on alley-oop slams and offensive rebound put backs. Chatman finishes strong in the paint and runs the floor hard. Skill set on the block is showing flashes of improvement. Solid rebounder. He went for 11 points and 5 rebounds. Worth consideration at the low-major level and for D2 programs.
SG Jamal Burton (Morgan Park _ 2016)
Burton has always been known as a tough defender and energy guy. The 6’3” wing continues to do that. He is a monster wing defender getting deflections and steals on a consistent basis. The unsigned senior is a tenacious rebounder as well hitting the glass on both ends at a high rate. Plays above the rim with plus athleticism including catching alley-oop passes. The most impressive development in his game was on the jumper. Burton has not been a particularly effective shooter throughout his career. At the Chicago Elite Classic he looked very comfortable hitting the 18 foot shot and even stepped out to drill a pair of threes. If he can add this to his game consistently he will be one of the biggest senior stock risers in the state. Burton finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals. Should be on the low-major radar.
PF Dylan Mulvihill (Evanston _ 2016)
This 6’6” four man has solid strength. He finishes well on the interior through contact. Good hands on dump off passes inside. Active on the glass. Uses toughness on defensive end. He had 9 points (4-6 FG), 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks against a very good Morgan Park front line. He is committed to Penn for baseball. Otherwise would be a nice NAIA/D3 option.
SG Zack Norvell (Simeon _ 2016)
The Simeon senior knows this is his team and they will go as far as he takes them. He started right from the jump hunting his shot and looking to get buckets. The Mr. Basketball candidate hit some tough jumpers from a variety of spots on the floor including a couple of deep threes. Great mechanics on the shot. Sometimes settles for it, but he is definitely a quality shooter. Showed flashes of moving without the ball including on a curl that he finished for a layup at the rim. Plus rebounder for his position. Quality free throw shooter. The Gonzaga commit had 19 points and 8 rebounds.
SG Josh Thomas (Simeon _ 2016)
Thomas is a 6’3” scoring guard that plays with a ton of passion and motor. The unsigned senior is best getting in the lane and finishing around the hoop with his strength and power. He is a crafty guard that isn’t the most athletic, but just knows how to get where he needs on the floor to be most effective. Thomas is a plus rebounder and a solid defender. He had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Low-major programs should seriously take a look at Thomas!
SF Ben Coupet (Simeon _ 2016)
Coupet is a 6’7” small forward with great size and length. He looks the part. Defensively he played well using his length and lateral quickness against less athletic wings. Did a solid job on the glass. After the start where he was somewhat aggressive with the ball offensively he was super passive the rest of the game. Didn’t look to score and just kind of moved the ball. Went for 3 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Has a ton of talent, but just hasn’t realized it all. Would fit best at a low-major that can take a chance that the upside will be reached.
PF James Gordon (Simeon _ 2016)
This was my first time seeing the transfer from Kentucky. The Toledo commitment stands at 6’5” and played in the post most of the night. Strong and compact body type. He had one big dunk, but that was the only field goal attempt all night. Struggled with fouls and overall just wasn’t very aggressive. He had 3 points and 2 rebounds.
PG Derrick Freeman (Whitney Young _ 2016)
Freeman is the Dolphins top senior prospect. He is a 6’0” combo guard that brings the most value on the defensive end. He pressures the basketball and gets deflections. Offensively gets to the line at a solid rate. Most likely a D3/NAIA candidate. Finished with 6 points and 2 steals.
