PHK’s 24th-ranked 2017, Montgomery County small forward Jerryd Jones is starting to become a buzz name for a number of Division I programs – including an SEC school, and Big 12 program.
“I have a lot of interest,” said Jones. “From Morehead State, NKU, Tennessee, Wright State, Oklahoma State, and Western Kentucky.”
“A lot of letters in the mail, and emails. NKU and Moorhead are the ones that are really interested in me the most, they call a few times a month and have taken a lot of interest in me.”
Still with no offers, the talented junior feels he has a lot left to prove.
“I really just need to keep playing hard, keep making good stats, and hopefully more and bigger D1 coaches will come after me,” said Jones. “I have a lot to prove still.”
The 6-foot-4 small forward is a slasher, who can hit from mid-range. He says he’s working to develop his ball-handling and outside shot.
“I like running a lot in transition, that’s where I get a get a lot of buckets because we have a really good point guard. Also mid-range, I can create my own shot, dribble pull up, and sometimes I can dribble down the floor and pull up from 3 and shoot. I really like getting to the basket, I like making moves and getting physical and getting into people to get fouled – a lot of and-ones,” said Jones.
“I need to work on a lot of ball-handling, I haven’t used a lot of ball-handling up to this point. And also the 3-ball, I really want to work on that.”
Jones played his first two seasons of high school ball with Rogers Clark, but decided to transfer into Montgomery County for his junior season.
“Academically I thought Montgomery could prepare me better for college, and they were really interested in me,” said Jones, who will be a major producer for the Indians.
“My coach likes the way I play offense, so I can score at will,” said Jones. “And I’ll provide a lot of rebounding, I know I can get a lot of rebounds, block shots, and help side defense. Really I just play hard.”
