The talented big-man has spoken with a couple D1 programs on the phone since playing his 16U summer with Team Takeover, and has been receiving plenty of mail as well.
“I’ve been talking to Hampton and Longwood, and I’ve gotten some letters from George Mason, Quinnipiac, West Virginia, The Mount (Mount St. Mary’s), and that’s about it – just Division I interest at the moment,” said Dyches.
“On the phone I’ve spoken to Hampton and Longwood, and the rest were letters in the mail. My mom has spoken to some schools too, but I don’t’ recall which schools they were.”
With still plenty of time for his recruitment to materialize, Dyches says right now his only concern is being offered by school that fits his personality.
“My goal is to go to a D1 school – high, low, mid-major, it doesn’t really matter as long as I fit in on the team. It’s just important that I find the right school and the right fit for me.”
Dyches went on to describe his playing style to PHM.
“Over the years I think I’ve developed a more physical game, and I’ve developed a mid-range jump-shot. I would prefer to have my back to the basket, but if it comes down to it I can knock down a shot. And I’m a pretty good rebounder, and I take charges too,” he said.
“I feel like I need to develop my ball-handling because I’m pretty undersized for a post, and at the college level I think I’ll end up playing outside a lot more because of my size. So I need to develop the ball-handling and the IQ of a guard.”
While coming off the bench for the nation’s’ 6th-ranked team – according to USA Today’s poll – Dyches says his role is to simply be consistent.
“Mainly they ask me to play hard, be physical, rebound, and finish around the rim,” he said. “I want to increase my conditioning and get stronger and faster. If I’m going against bigger guys I feel I can beat them with speed and agility.”
