Kentucky Player of the Week: Jake Ohmer
2017 Scott Guard Jake Ohmer is a man of many talents. He plays both baseball and basketball for the Eagles and has already broken the basketball scoring record in a game three times. He’s a versatile basketball player that can shoot it, drive the ball and create for his teammates as well. He’s not sure what he wants to do in college, whether it be baseball or basketball but still has plenty of time to work that out.
Jake credits his improved outside shooting with helping him become a better scorer this season. But he also says that staying aggressive and getting to the rim on nights where he doesn’t shoot it well is a big key as well. He’s gotten stronger this year and uses that too his advantage when driving to the rim and trying to score through contact.
Outside of school Jake just likes to hang out with his friends and work on his game when he has time. He wants to help get Scott to the state tournament this season after falling short in the regional finals a year ago. Jake believes that if he and his teammates take care of business they can do just that and represent the 10th region at Rupp Arena. He also has tremendous faith in his head coach (Brad Carr) and believes he can help them reach their goals this season as well.
Jake earned player of the week honors after averaging 44 points in two wins during the opening week. He beat out Caverna’s Mason Faulkner, Cooper’s Sean McNeil, Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Taveion Hollingsworth and Warren East’s Kaleb Britt for the first Player of the Week honors of the year.
