The basketball court is not the only place Young thrives. In the classroom Young works just as hard as he does on the court. The effort Young puts forth in the classroom was apparent when he got back his ACT scores this week. Young scored a composite score of 29 on the ACT.
Top basketball programs across the country have offered scholarships to Young, but it should be noted Young could go to most schools and receive high academic scholarships with his success in the classroom. The ability of Young to balance everything going on around him at 17 years old is remarkable.
Young leans on his family for support through the recruiting process. His dad Rayford Young has been through the process before. Rayford landed in Lubbock at Texas Tech in the fall of 1996. He would go on to have an outstanding career playing for the Red Raiders. Young credits the great support system he has around him as a big reason for his success on and off the court.
“I think having a strong background with a mom and dad to keep me humble, and having a strong work ethic is the reason,” Young said. “In the end I give all the glory to God, because without God none of this would be possible.”
Young continues to make his mark at an early age on the hardwood and in the classroom. This weekend Young will visit Kentucky for Big Blue Madness Friday night. The Wildcats have extended an offer to Young.
