2016 Shooting Guard Khobe Austin-Johnson knows the expectations bestowed upon him and his basketball team by the community. He says, they are up for the challenge.
“There is a lot of pride being able to call yourself Hornet,” said Austin-Johnson. “The fan support is tremendous, but in order to keep them their you have to preform well and we intend to do that.”
Booker T. Washington faired well last year coming just one win shy of a state tournament birth. Austin-Johnson has moved forward from that early playoff exit and took to the summer circuit with a vengeance. He played his final Grassroots season with the Oklahoma Wolfpack, where he stuffed the stat sheet in a number of ways.
One of the greatest attributes to Austin-Johnsons game is his versatility. He does not do a few things well, he does a lot of things well. That versatility gives him the ability to adjust to the game and give his team whatever they need on any given night.
If there is a high scoring guard, Austin-Johnson is up for the task defensively. If he has a favorable matchup offensively, he is able to expose that matchup inside and out. Austin-Johnson brings a “whatever it takes” attitude every time he graces the hardwood.
With the season looming right around the corner, the Hornets have had the chance get a feel for the team thats set to take the floor in the 2015. Austin-Johnson claims practices have gone well, but knows they have potential to be better.
“We got a couple bumps and bruises that are limiting us,” said Austin- Johnson. “But we work hard and we love to compete daily”
Austin-Johnson says that the expectations that this team has put on themselves are higher than anyone else. The expectations he puts on himself are equally high.
“We definitely want to make some noise in the state tournament as a group and enjoy the last ride,” said Austin-Johnson. “For myself, bring my full potential to the table night in and night out. It's all about consistency. Me and my guys know how good I am it's just on me to show it night in and night out.”
Austin- Johnson has received attention from a number of colleges such as Grambling, Northeastern State, Rogers State, Henderson State, and Missouri State-West Plains(JC).
Booker T. Washington will rely on Austin-Johnson heavily in his final season as a Hornet. He not only looks to bring home a state championship, but lead the young players around him and cherish their final moments together as Hornets.
