Especially for someone who could win 1st region player of the year and lead his team to a state championship. He led Tilghman with 14.9 points per game on 62% shooting and averaged 4.7 rebounds per game as well. He helped Tilghman win 21 games last year and they made the 1st region tournament, losing to eventual runner-up, and current 1st region favorite, Murray in the first round.
Currently Devon is hearing from a few schools at a couple different levels. Lincoln Memorial, Alabama-Huntsville, Transylvania, Greenville College, Oxford College of Emory and Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He doesn’t have any offers right now, but is hoping his recruitment will pick up during the high school season. He did say that Lincoln Memorial is really standing out to him and that they were planning to watch him during the high school season.
Devon describes himself as a defensive player that likes to get up and down the floor. Offensively he’s versatile and can shoot the ball or attack the rim, but he’s not selfish and likes to find his teammates for easy looks as well. He’s working on getting more explosive and stronger, but is also trying to tighten up his ball-handling and wants to get better finishing with his left hand.
Paducah Tilghman will come into the high school season right behind Murray as favorites to win the 1st region. A big part of that is the 6 seniors they return along with star underclassmen like sophomore JJ Reed and freshman Rod Thomas. The seniors have all played together since they were young and they feel like this is their year. They are hoping to play up tempo this season and be one of the top defensive teams in the state. Devon told us that if they stay focused, play together and play hard they can do big things and play with anybody.
Devon also has some personal goals, he’d like to win district and region player of the year and is only 200 points away from reaching the 1,000 mark. He also wants to shoot the best field goal percentage of anyone in his region and thinks that’ll help him develop more as a shooter as well. Devon is primed for a big season and it’ll be fun to see him try to lead his team to a 1st region championship this year.
