Crafty post that has a nice combination of skill and physicality inside.  Snatched rebounds and had a few nice moves on the block including spins and finishing with his off hand.

Newman has next up as an interior anchor for another talented Warriors squad. The young post has hands, feet, and a complimentary strong frame that he utilizes on both ends. In the early morning game on Sunday he ran the floor with good pace keeping up with a really up tempo style game. He also finished on the break a couple times and provided stability in the ½ court setting. He made a couple other nice movements including a screen and slip for a score and then a catch and turn in the paint for a baby hook finish. Also gathered an o board for a put back. Provides a spark and will play a key role this upcoming season.

Newman is a 6’5” big bodied post that rebounds extremely well in his area.  Got on the offensive glass for multiple put backs.  Offensively he displayed touch and feel around the hoop scoring on post touches.  Good overall skill set as he stretched for a three along with having a sweet hook shot in the post.

Active on the glass and reliable as a ball-screener, showing patience and poise for a young prospect. Finished through contact in the paint, using head fakes effectively and soft touch with either hand. Also displayed awareness as a screener up high and the ability to kick out strong passes from the block.

The Deerfield freshman impressed with the calmness and awareness he brought to the showcase. He displayed strong rebounding instincts, securing boards and keeping them away from steals — always showing a nose for the ball. His screening was another asset, as Newman set wide, firm picks that freed up teammates. Offensively, he showed the strength to finish through contact in the paint and the patience to read defenses in the post before making the right decision. His maturity and fundamentals already give him a reliable foundation to build on.
