Expert Analysis
Jay Frye | Prep Hoops Scout
Young is a physically imposing big with length that immediately alters the game. He rebounds outside of his area, protects the rim, and moves well enough to defend in space. Offensively, he can stretch the floor and knock down shots, which only adds to his value. High-major tools with plenty of developmental runway.
Evaluation Summary:
✅ Rim protection and shot blocking
✅ Defensive mobility in space

An extremely athletic, bouncy forward whose game is defined by vertical pop, explosive second jumps, and elite reactive athleticism. Off two feet or one, he elevated effortlessly off the ground displaying quick-twitch lift with violent intent, playing well above the rim on both ends. Defensively, Young’s shot-blocking prowess jumped off the screen. He’s not just tall or long but elite timing and spatial awareness, tracking drivers from the weak side and meeting shots at their peak for clean rejections, often igniting transition the other way. As a dunker, his package is dynamic and forceful. He runs the floor hard, finishing lobs and drop-offs with above-the-rim authority. Young’s motor paired with that bounce makes him a constant vertical threat, even when plays break down.

was a master of the screen-and-slip action, operating with the kind of timing, patience, and basketball IQ that turns a simple action into high-percentage shots, getting easy dunks and layups. Instead of holding contact on the screen, he read the defender’s coverage and reacted instantly, slipping with his hands high and catching everything in stride. Whenever he cut down the lane, he exploded with force, throwing down dunks with power and momentum.

is a 6’9 forward who already plays with the poise of an older prospect. He’s most comfortable in the high post, where he can score, face up, or make simple reads that keep the offense steady. His real value shows on defense, using verticality and timing to protect the rim without fouling. Xavier finishes offensive possessions with an assortment of dunks and plays above the rim. Xavier is long and disciplined, is a future high-major recruit.

, a 2028 prospect from Faith Family Academy, is one of the most promising big men in his class. Standing at 6’9”, he possesses exceptional versatility, mobility, and skill on both ends of the court. Young’s defensive prowess is evident in his ability to protect the rim with precision and great timing on contests. He runs the floor very well for his frame, creating opportunities for his teammates and himself. His finishing touch is equally impressive, allowing him to convert shots with ease in the interior. Look for Xavier to make big strides in the next couple seasons before he graduates in 2028!

uses deep seals, strong base work, and shoulder leverage to dictate angles. Phenomenal build and frame, already built to compete against college competition. Young stands tall with a broad chest, strong core, and defined shoulders, giving him the ability to absorb and deliver contact without losing balance. Young moves very well with power and coordination, running the floor like a wing with long strides, fluid hips, and an explosive first step. On the glass, Young’s strength and verticality allow him to carve out position early, high-point rebounds, and control the paint physically.

Young has a frame that’s advanced well beyond his age as he has grown man strength already. A force in the paint, Young had some strong rebounds and was moving other bigs around in the paint. Knocking down a couple corner 3-pointers caught my eye as a new skill that Young showed on Friday that I didn’t know he had in his bag. Young also threw down a huge dunk off a backdoor cut that was a perfect play to see his physical gifts in action.

Young is an athletic interior forward who thrives as a rim-to-rim presence. He runs the floor hard, creating easy scoring chances in transition, and finishes with strength around the basket. His ability to step out and hit shots gives him value as a developing stretch option, making him more than just an interior threat. While still young, he’s rapidly improving his ball-handling and creation skills, showing flashes of being able to attack off the bounce. Defensively, he anchors with effort inside and is growing more comfortable guarding on the perimeter. Young’s energy, versatility, and steady improvement make him a high-upside piece in Faith Family’s frontcourt rotation.

created second and third chance shot opportunities on a consistent basis. Every box out was physical and aggressive. Great active hands, even if Young didn’t secure the board he almost always got a tip or hand on the ball. He also had a special way of shedding box outs with spinoffs, swim moves, and slips when box outs were over played. Defensively

proved to be an elite shot blocker who challenged shots at the rim straight up, with two hands high, chasedown from behind, or weakside help, jumping high enough to swat floaters, mid-range jumpers, dunk attempts, and alter high arching layups. There’s a lot to like about this kid, his upside is tremendous and there’s no cap on how good he can become. Heading into his sophomore year,
