found the perfect fit with Mt. Vernon when he moved to Georgia last year and has really carved out an identity for himself in that system. Shegog has a frame that’s ready for the college game and bounce that allows him to play much bigger than 6’6. We’ve seen him make strides in his perimeter skillset as well, looking much more comfortable when shooting and handling the ball this year. Shegog recently committed to West Georgia who will be moving to D1 next year.

Zay did his part against King’s Ridge in a 53-48 loss, posting 18 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block. Motor is never an issue for Shegog, a consistent rebounder with great activity around the rim. He works his tail off and reaps the benefits of his efforts. He scored on four putbacks while finishing with both hands.

has been making his name known in the peach state. He’s been the most consistent and productive player on a talented Mt. Vernon roster this year and I think that he’s really starting to understand how he can be most effective. Shegog played well for Mt. Vernon in an exciting afternoon matchup against 7A Parkview, posting a game-high 18 points. He had some impressive finishes through contact and uses his strong frame well around the rim. Shegog picked up a couple of D1 offers over the summer and makes for an exciting addition to Georgia’s 2024 class.

. He finished the game with 14 points, all coming in the second half. Shegog was very effective working out of the high post and it seems like that may be the best spot for him in this offense. Around the basket, Shegog uses his strength to his advantage to score through contact or over smaller defenders. He’s also a solid defender and has a ton of potential to grow into something special on the defensive end. It’ll be interesting to whether Shegog returns to Brad Beal Elite this spring or if he opts for an Atlanta-based program.

was certainly another step in the right direction. Shegog is a physical, athletic forward that runs the floor well, plays tough defense, and finishes above the rim. He looked excellent during the month of June in his first action with Mt. Vernon. Shegog makes Mt. Vernon a lot better defensively and could be the piece they needed to reach the ultimate goal of a state championship.

New to Georgia, Shegog is coming off a season in which he averaged 9.6 points and 5.7 rebounds at powerhouse Goodpasture Christian, TN. Shegog is a great athlete that competes on the backboard and can do damage from the wing and high post. He has a chance to become a plus defender

While Mt. Vernon was playing with an under-manned team on Sunday, Shegog stepped up and shined. Physically, Shegog is levels above other high school players because of his size, strength, and athleticism. He looked solid attacking the rim Sunday, using his body to initiate contact and finishing strong. After transferring to Mt. Vernon from Nashville this offseason, Shegog will be a key piece for the Mustangs in what they hope is a deep playoff run.
