A Judson University signee, Spurgeon was a steady presence for Jimtown on Friday night. The 6’0″ senior guard finished with 14 points and 3 rebounds, but the Jimmies came up short losing to Bremen 61-54. On the season he is their leading scorer averaging 16.8 points per game. Jimtown will likely get another shot at Bremen at some point in Sectional 34.

Coming off of a strong spring and summer with Region Elite, Spurgeon has proven himself as a solid small college prospect. His three-point shooting ability has always been intriguing, but he has showcased what he can do as a primary ball handler recently as well. After playing alongside two scholarship-level players last season at Jimtown, look for this rising senior to have a breakout season this winter for the Jimmies. He has received an offer from Judson and should continue to bring in more and more opportunities.

Spurgeon played alongside two very good players last season at Jimtown High School who are moving on to play in college. The 6’0″ played his role well averaging 9.5 points per game and leading the team in three-point shooting. Now he will take on a go-to role and appears to be ready for the task based on how he has played through the spring and summer. He is another one that college coaches should check out in July.

Jimtown was one of the team that impressed me the most of the weekend and one of the reasons was the play of senior guard Will Sourgeon. The 6’0 guard was one of the more true combo guards that I saw and played so hard on the floor on both ends. Made some really good hustle and was a good ball handler.

Spurgeon has flown under-the-radar coming into the spring after playing alongside two excellent seniors at Jimtown High School that are moving on to play at the college level. However, Spurgeon had a great season in his own right averaging 9.5 points and making 43 three-point shots while the Jimmies reached the Semi-State. Playing Region Elite, Spurgeon has continued to showcase himself as an excellent catch-and-shoot threat while also expanding his game as a playmaker. He was a bright spot for Region Elite despite a lopsided loss on Sunday afternoon.

Spurgeon will be asked to step into a much larger role next season at Jimtown after the graduation of two star players. Based on what we saw over the weekend from the 6’0″ sharp-shooter he will be ready to answer the call. He averaged 13.3 points per game while serving as a primary playmaking for Region Force Elite as well. Under-the-radar, high-academic prospect to watch this spring and summer.
