Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Among the highest-regarded prospects in attendance, Brunson had the gym buzzing from start to finish with his dynamic and poised multi-level attack. A lefty who grows seemingly by the day, Brunson is more of a guard by skillset but now a true wing by body type with a burgeoning frame to go with his tremendous positional size. He looked effortless while creating space for his jumper along the perimeter, countering with a smooth handle to get downhill and finish with touch or emerging athleticism. One of the higher-upside prospects not just in the state but in the country, Brunson should emerge in a big way for Rutgers Prep this winter after biding his time in a smaller role as a freshman.

Picking up where he left off last weekend, Will Brunson continued to showcase his skillset as a multi level scorer. The southpaw wing put his scoring prowess on full display— knocking down open shots from three point range while also mixing it up by creating off the bounce and attacking downhill and finishing with craftiness around the basket. Brunson’s downhill aggression also opened up offense for his teammates spraying out to open shooters and hitting dumpoffs. Brunson also used his length to not only crash the glass and rebound the basketball but also alter and contest shot attempts at the rim.

An interesting prospect just off the initial eye test, Will Brunson had a strong weekend that backed up the intrigue that surrounds him. A smooth and lanky guard, Brunson demonstrated his ability to score it from multiple spots on the floor— creating off the dribble and getting to his mid range, scoring against smaller defenders in the low post, and finishing with touch around the basket. Brunson has obvious upside and it was easy to see that over the course of this weekend’s initial scholastic live period.
Brunson picked up offers from the likes of Rutgers, La Salle, and Syracuse over the weekend. Possessing the necessary physical tools, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a handful of other D1 programs get involved in Brunson’s recruitment going forward.

You may have had to look closely depending on the game, but the flashes were there in spades for Brunson as he stepped right into the rotation for a talented but young and ultimately injury-laden Argonauts group. The finished product is still a ways away, but the rapidly-growing southpaw swingman has made key steps towards putting the pieces together while playing with his age group this spring. Blessed with elite positional size and graceful athleticism, Brunson glides about the floor while playing with a poise and feel unbefitting of a wing his age. The scoring numbers haven’t been gaudy as he’s had trouble getting clean shots to drop in, but the impact in the floor game has been undeniably key to the Rens’ hot start to the spring. High-majors would be wise to file the name away for the future as Brunson’s ceiling appears very high and he continues taking gradual steps forward toward making it a reality.
