Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Previous Rank: 18rnThe explosive forward took a big leap forward this season, emerging as a leader and one of the top two-way playmakers in the state. His defensive anticipation and athleticism are D1 caliber, and he has made improvements across the other areas of his game this year to elevate his status as a prospect. His passing is vastly overlooked, and he has the promise to continue to develop the jumper into a bigger weapon.

The MVP of the 4A NPSL, he is a smooth and athletic player who can get it done on both ends. Part of the backcourt and wing players who will have a size advantage and athletic advantage as well. He is a player that can be the difference maker for Federal Way.

Previous Rank: 31rnAnother top-tier athlete in the state, Weems has been a defensive wizard and a tyrant at the rim. He is such an elite finisher that most games you won’t see him shoot farther out than a foul shot. This season, he has only gotten better and more electric. He is a steal machine, reading angles, jumping lanes, and showing he is one of the best defenders in the state. Think you have an easy transition bucket? Think again. Weems has the pace to easily chase down breakaways and reject shots at the rim. With all that being said, what has impressed me most with his development has been his playmaking offensively. When defenses start to plug the paint, Weems has to be able to find open guys and he has done a tremendous job of that this season. When the rim isn’t available, he finds baseline shooters but is also making key passes from the top of the key, finding guys up court in transition, and showing excellent vision of the whole court.

Weems is a high effort, high efficiency, super athlete that leads the way for an incredibly balanced Federal Way team this year. He is going to dominate less-physical players and outwork those who can match his ability. It was evident last season how much Weems can swing a game, and this looks like a year Federal Way can make a deep playoff run.

Weems is such a vital piece to the Federal Way puzzle because he never stops playing. He catches opposing players when they ease up or get too comfortable, stealing the ball away time and again. And he doesn’t just create turnovers, he capitalizes on them with an aggressive mindset and excellent finishing. He is a reliable tone setter and helps this team succeed inside and on the glass without a true big man on the floor.

As the most established defender on this list, Weems doesn’t need a lot of help explaining his defensive prowess. He guards in the half court, in transition, gets steals, and blocks, and is a relentless rebounder. For him, the ability to defend is going to open a lot of doors in his recruitment. He’s the perfect example of getting on the floor first with great defense and slowly growing the rest of your game to match.

No. 6 | An all-out hustle guy, Weems plays the game the right way and it seems like his teammates love him for it. He’s aggressive and plays much bigger than even his 6’4 frame suggests. When Weems is on the floor he is capable of swinging momentum at any moment, he’s always lurking and ready to make that one big play. The quickness, anticipation, and high motor make up a unique skillset for Weems that has him as one of the top forwards in the area.
