Peak to Peak pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the postseason, and Tyson Burton has been at the center of it all. The multi-sport point guard averaged 24.1 points per game and scored from all three levels. Defenses throw double teams at him, but he reads them well. Another big performance could push Peak to Peak even further and his name on the board even more as all eyes will be on him to keep the season alive.

Burton is a player at Peak to Peak who continues to force attention as his game rises to another level. What separates him is his ability to impact both ends of the floor with consistency. A confident scorer, Burton is excellent with the ball in his hands and understands how to break down defenders, getting to his spots with purpose and a smooth, repeatable release. The majority of his 20.3 points come inside the arc where his strength, touch and footwork allow him to finish through contact. Defensively he’s just as disruptive, averaging 7 rebounds and 3 steals by constantly applying pressure and positioning himself in passing lanes and in areas to secure boards. His physicality, feel for the game and two way production are why he continues to climb the rankings

Burton is the engine that drives Peak to Peak on both ends of the floor. Shifty and explosive he can change direction in an instant, making him extremely difficult to guard one on one. Offensively he’s a multi dimensional threat who can finish in traffic with creativity and touch, pull up for mid range jumpers, or attack the rim off the dribble. His court vision allows him to find open teammates in transition or in the half court, making him as much a playmaker as a scorer. Defensively Burton sets the tone with his energy, anticipation and quick hands forcing turnovers and disrupting passing lanes. He controls the pace, directs the offense and consistently makes smart decisions that elevate his team. He is a player opponents must game plan for and one who should continue to rise up the rankings

Burton plays very fast with the ball in his hands, going both ways. Excellent as a point of attack defender, the guard’s low center of gravity and quick hips allows him to be a pest along the perimeter. As well as being comfortable handling the ball out of pick and roll or pop, he works hard to orchestrate Peak to Peak’s offense.

Burton’s playmaking as a high motor lead guard has aided Peak to Peak’s undefeated start to the season, going 10-0. Comfortable attacking the rim, he brings a quick first step which generates greater openings for shotmakers off the kick out or dump off. As well a serviceable point of attack defender, he works to make opposing ball handlers uncomfortable, taking away space early on. A high motor lead guard, Burton looks to put pressure on the rim, getting his teammates involved once drawing defenders. He gets plenty of looks out of the pick and roll, actively facilitating Peak to Peak’s forwards. Unlike so many guards, Burton is comfortable at full speed, no easy task considering his quick acceleration. Defensively, he works to get into opponents early, rarely allowing uncontested attempts. His impact with B and B Academy has continued to affirm his success throughout this spring season.
