The 6-1 sophomore combo guard has good length and is quick when he has the basketball in his hands. Payton can score on all three levels whether it’s around the rim, mid-range or shooting from the perimeter. On the defensive end, Payton can guard on-the-ball as well as off-the-ball at a high level where he applies good pressure and is active in the passing lanes. He can get steals and strips which lead to transition points on the offensive end where his ability to finish on both sides of the rim have continued to improve.

Payton is a dynamic player and can impact the game in a number of ways. He’s athletic and has a good frame which allows him to be an effective rebounder and defender. He is a very talented scorer and can get his buckets in multiple ways. He’s a good shooter, is efficient around the rim, and can beat you off the dribble. Payton moves nicely and is a good ball-handler. He’s great in fastbreak situations runs the floor well, and uses his athleticism to play in the air as a finisher. Payton plays hard and is confident in his abilities.
