Expert Analysis
Aaron Proia | Prep Hoops Scout
-Lonardo matched up with a physical backcourt and still played at a high level at both ends of the floor. Lonardo knocked offensive rebounds out of his opponent’s hands to close out possessions, knocked down a back shoulder jumper from the high post, set up a well-timed back cut and finished with the extension layup, glided in transition with a euro step between two defenders in transition, and scored off a spin/drop step combo from the low post to hit a double clutch reverse layup just past the double team. Loved seeing him out-rebound better athletes by doing his work early with physical boxouts under the rim and used his pivot well to score in traffic amongst the trees. Nice combination of skill and motor, will be a great small college prospect.

Lonardo’s versatility was on display in a one-point loss to a very talented Tre Mann Elite (FL) team. He consistently got into the paint, showed creativity as a finisher, and was effective in the midrange. He has a strong feel for the game and moves well without the ball. Despite facing bigger, longer opponents, he competes defensively and holds his own on the glass, adding to his value as a well rounded wing.

Lonardo provides the ability to score in the paint and on the perimeter. The junior forward has good touch around the rim and can step out and make an open perimeter jump shot. He plays with a high motor and rebounds at both ends. The All-Met selection for Marshall moves well without the ball and should see an uptick in his recruitment this offseason.

A First Team All-State selection, Lonardo is a versatile wing with good size and athleticism. He has the ability to finish above the rim, is a capable open shot maker from the perimeter, and plays with a solid feel for the game. His combination of size, skill, and versatility allows him to impact the game in multiple ways on both ends of the floor.

The junior combo forward is off to a good start for Marshall for Head Coach Jerry Lin. Lonardo has versatility at the offensive end including inside/outside scoring ability. He has good length, is a productive rebounder and has been very efficient for the undefeated Statesmen. Lonardo can play on the wing, but might be best as a mismatch 4 man with continued physical development in the future.

Trey Lonardo Trey Lonardo 6'4" | SF Marshall-Falls Church | 2027 State VA took a huge leap last season for Marshall, and I think he will take another one heading into his senior year. Trey is a terrific shooter spotting up and can get his own attacking mismatches. He is a solid defender with versatility. Marshall will lose their best player in Anderson Krisko Anderson Krisko 6'6" | C Marshall-Falls Church | 2025 State VA , so I think the guy who takes the biggest step is Trey. I watched him play in the Summer League last week, and he was fantastic, along with some of the great work he’s done with the NOVA Cavs.
