Michael Roth | Prep Hoops Scout
Castro’s quickness and ability to beat the initial defender off the dribble was crucial for Glenville as he pushed the pace off the dribble and led the game with five assists. An acrobatic finisher at the rim, Castro hung in the air and hit a few crazy floaters and layups. I’ll be curious to see what steps Castro takes as a senior, the Tarblooders are losing a lot of size next season and could start three small guards. This change in personnel could see more full court defensive pressure where Castro can use his quickness to pressure ball handlers.

An injury cost Castro the start of his Sophomore season but he picked up where he left off this summer once he got going. One of the quickest guards in Ohio, Castro can get by the first defender and collapse the defense. With his ability to drive and force the defense to help, Castro’s quick decision making allows his teammates to get set up in positions to score. His game-high 15 points in a win over Cleveland Heights is his marquee outing of the season. If Glenville is going to make another district title run in the postseason, Castro has to be playing his best basketball come March.

Castro is one of the shiftiest and quickest freshman point guards I’ve seen this season. While he is very undersized right now, I was impressed with how fearless he was attacking the basket and the passes he made with a live dribble. Castro is very left hand dominant at the rim, so improving his offhand will be an area of focus over the next few years. I also liked how Castro wasn’t shy about taking open jumpers, but his outside shot wasn’t falling on Thursday night. Glenville has one of the most athletic teams in the state with a lot of football first players, but Castro’s point guard skills allowed this team to retuo the regionals for a second straight season.
