Next up is another big man, Phalen. Sean was one of the most dominant forwards in SCISA this season, going for 16.6 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game at John Paul II. Listed at 6’6″ 235 pounds, Phalen has a gifted body and excels not only in basketball, but in football, lacrosse, and track and field. However, he’s not just a bruiser, Sean also has some skill to face up on the offensive end.

Despite Bluffton having several big bodies to match up with him, Sean was still dominant for JPII despite the loss. He got going by slipping a screen for a finish in the paint, then started to work more with his back-to-the-basket as the game went on. Phalen is also an excellent passer and will kill you on the glass if you don’t box him out, both of which will pose issues for opponents once the Warriors get to SCISA play. He doesn’t get many opportunities to be a jump shooter in this system, but Sean did show a smooth stroke on his 6 free-throw attempts and could turn into a decent shooter before he enrolls at the next level. Phalen finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the loss.

Phalen was a pleasant surprise this past summer on the Grassroots Circuit with his game. Sean doesn’t mind mixing it up down on the block. He shows to have a nice touch out to the elbow and short corner at times.
Phalen works for position and has the ability to finish with both hands around the bucket. He averaged 8 ppg last season on the hardwood. Sean is a 3-sport athlete for the Golden Warriors in the SCISA Class 4A ranks.

Phalen averaged over 20 ppg this past weekend for his Lowcountry squad. Sean has a soft touch around the cup and a thick frame to boot. He excels in the fall on the football field as a TE/DE. Sean made some really good outlet passes here today. He understands on how to use his body and carve out space. Phalen has good footwork to work on both sides of the block.
This was the first-time watching Sean play and he made quite impression on us here at Prep Hoops.
