About Rylan
Expert Analysis
Ryan James | Prep Hoops Scout
Rylan seemed to go for a guy that MIACs should look into, to a guy that MIACs have to have. His game seemed to be a player that was solid, but now if you are an NAIA you have to think about looking his way to be a scholarship guy you. Rylan is tough, consistent, really smart and productive, a combination that is hard to find these days as players look for more flash and less results.

Rylan Happel is a six-foot Mounds View point guard that played for Minnesota Heat GVR. Happel can be a playmaker for others at the POA running the point, getting the team going, moving the ball, and getting teammates opportunities. Happel can shoot well from the perimeter, mostly spotted up, and plays with a good aggressive streak.

– Happel is a six-foot 2027 guard from Mounds View that started every game and was all conference in 2025-26. Happel plays the guard position like a traditional point, moves the ball as a passer and gets his team into what they’re supposed to be doing. Happel is a crafty playmaker who can also spot-up along the 3-point arc and make jumpers.

is changing opinions. He’s a competitive, battling guard that looks a little taller, a bit stronger, and Rylan uses his great feel for the game to combine with those things to win possession battles. Love his approach on the floor: Rylan seems to take a challenge and yesterday’s challenge was to face, and defeat the top ranked 16u team in the state (Fury Wilde).
Rylan has a really clean three point jumper that he makes in good percentages, his hesitation move is excellent, the ball movement off the ball screen is timed perfectly, and his spin move ranks with the best I have seen.
Happel had 20 points in that Fury win and then he played really well against Fury Zurn in a competitive game. Happel is going to be one of the top D3 recruits and I think he will flourish at that level. And with time, I think his game could really flourish in college and who knows where things could go from there. Look out for Heat GVR and Mounds View when Rylan is in charge.

Rylan was making things happen for MN Heat GVR’s offense in an opening round win. The 6’0” guard is so quick with the ball in his hands and was able to make very difficult drives and finishes to the basket look easy. He is a great finisher at full speed with either hand and was tough to stay in front of. With his attacking, he was amazing in the pick & roll as well, hitting teammates with perfect one-hand bounce passes for open layups. Happel is also a major threat from deep, as he was connecting on three-point looks off the dribble and off the catch.
