Expert Analysis
Joe Esquivel-Murphy | Prep Hoops Scout
Lacey was one of the top freshmen in South Jersey last season and should have an even bigger sophomore season. The 5’11 guard has a smooth release on his jumper as he wastes little motion and can knock down triples in bunches. Lacey is more than just a shooter as he can also get to the rim off the bounce and finishes well in the mid-range. He is an underrated passer and slides his feet on the defensive end. Lacey is a sharpshooting guard prospect who should light up the scoreboard throughout the course of the season.

Potentially the most productive freshman in South Jersey, Lacey has been a consistent factor for the Irish with double-figure scoring in all but four games throughout the season. He doesn’t necessarily look the part at first glance, but has proven himself to be a potent threat from the perimeter with a smooth, confident stroke and deep range out beyond the arc. He shows a proficient skillset attacking off the bounce with no fear going in amongst the trees, along with a feisty competitiveness when defending the ball on the other end. His long-term outlook will depend a lot on his physical progression but Lacey figures to be among the torch-bearers for South Jersey’s 2029 class for years to come.

Another of the state’s more productive and consistent freshmen, Lacey has been in double figures in all but two games thus far to start his high school career. He took a bit to ease into the game during his first trip to PVI, but ultimately settled in on his way to 14 points. Lacey shows a smooth shooting stroke with deep range, knocking down a trio of 3s to help stretch the Eagle defense. He’s skilled attacking off the bounce as well, particularly showcasing a strong left hand as a ballhandler and finisher. He’ll have to study the film from this one to see moments where he could be more poised against opposing length, but Lacey looks to be next up in an Irish program that’s become accustomed to pumping out collegiate guards over the years.
