A freshman left handed point guard who appears ready to take on a substantial offensive responsibility as Montgomery’s lead initiator, Ryan Grundy Ryan Grundy 6'0" | PG Montgomery | 2030 NJ showed a more than comfortable willingness to operate with the ball in his hands and handle a high usage load. Grundy’s offensive impact stems from his ability to pair half court rim pressure with perimeter shot making, utilizing his handle, change of pace, and shiftiness to manipulate defenders and create separation— consistently working his way into the lane for quick finishes at the rim. All while also reinforcing his value as an off ball shooter, confidently stepping into outside shots with smooth rhythm and an intelligent decision maker, collapsing the defense and create quality looks for teammates. With plenty of opportunity ahead, Grundy has a clear path to making an immediate impact where his combination of playmaking and scoring should allow him to step into a significant role right away.

Grundy showed poise during Jersey Live this summer and is looking to carry that form into the season. The 6’0 guard makes good decisions with the ball in his hands and is unafraid of taking big shots in the clutch. Grundy has a clean shooting stroke as he wastes little motion and sets his feet before he shoots. He works hard on the defensive end and can also play off the ball. Grundy is a gritty guard prospect that does whatever it takes to help his team win games.

Freshman left handed point guard Ryan Grundy Ryan Grundy 6'0" | PG Montgomery | 2030 NJ appears poised to step into a significant role as Montgomery’s primary ball handler, as he showed little to no hesitation playing with the ball in his hands and operating at a high usage rate. Grundy’s effectiveness came from his ability to blend half court rim pressure with perimeter shot making— using a mixture of some of his wiggle and change of pace off the bounce to manipulate defenders and create separation to get deep in the lane for swift finishes at the rim and smooth, soft touch mid range pull ups coupled with outside movement shooting, navigating different pin downs and sliding to vacant slot spots to replace driving guards.

Saturday afternoon saw Montgomery take two hard-fought losses against a pair of high-powered PA programs but the experience should pay dividends for the Cougars’ freshman lead guard. Grundy had no issue making his presence felt against a much older, talent-laden Hill School team, routinely streaking to the basket off the bounce for high-wire finishes through traffic. He was effective as a table-setter when he collapsed the defense and showed confidence and polish with his pullup game as well. The southpaw has room to improve on his right hand but there’s plenty of room for finetuning for what looks to be among the top handful of freshmen in the state.

One of smartest creators in the Northeast, Grundy has also been a standout through his middle school years already. Playing for his father and with his brother on a good Montgomery team that graduates it’s starting point guard, it’s hard to think there are many better players seemingly walking into better situations to have a real impact. His playmaking and scoring will both be on display in year one in a real way.

Grundy will have the ball in his hands this season, which will help his development in a big way. The 6’0 guard plays with composure on the ball as he rarely gets rattled by on-ball pressure and threads passes to his open teammates. Grundy has a good touch on his floater and makes opponents pay for giving him space behind the arc. He can also play off the ball and is a tough on-ball defender. Grundy’s ability to run the offense smoothly is something that will help Montgomery win games throughout the 2026-27 season.
