started to pop in coaching and scouting circles alike this year, but is still flying under the radar of many. The Elite Prep League player of the year was named a National Prep Championship All-American, yet still has few college offers. Ruey is one of the most electric scorers in the nation, with numerous go-to moves and shotmaking ability at all three levels. Defensively, Ruey is a competitor whose size and frame allow him to guard multiple positions on the court. His motor and wingspan, combined with strong instincts, make him a solid weak-side rim protector as well.

may be the biggest climber over the course of this year. The lanky 6-foot-6 guard led the Elite Prep league in points over the course of the regular season and walked away with MVP honors. This was not incidental, and Ruey proves this every time he walks on the court. Ruey can give it to defenses any type of way from all three levels hitting stepback threes, pull ups, creating space in the midrange posting up smaller players or attacking the rim with reckless abandon. Despite his slim frame, Ruey pops right back up after every time he hits the floor with a thud and calmly knocks down the freethrows. Ruey is also active off the ball and is proficient at squaring up quickly to the rim and hitting shots off hard cuts. Defensively he can slide with guards, rotates well, functioning as a low man to protect the rim and can truly guard 1-4 at this level. Still underrecruited this kid is a not so hidden gem for anyone who chooses to cash in on him.

35p 13r 2a 1s 2b 12/21 FG 11/11 FT vs Highland
-Might be the best available but was definitely the most productive prospect in the event, Ruey averaged 20p 11r 2a 1s 2b as the MVP of the EPL in a magical run to the championship title game. Ruey uses a + wingspan and good positional size to rebound the basketball at a high level for his position, defend multiple positions as a rangy off guard/wing prospect, and score in a variety of ways. Ruey did a great job of consistently earning trips to the FT line, knocking down runners in the paint and stepback jumpers from all 3 levels, and initiating the fastbreak to get his team easy opportunities in transition. His handle has improved to fire live dribble passes with either hand from the perimeter as he did a great job of creating for his bigs and shooters throughout the week. Ruey can post up smaller guards on the block, rotated well to cross the paint from the elbows to block shots at the rim, and showed the resolve to bring his team back from double digit deficits by turning defensive stops into free throws or high percentage transition looks. His size, quickness, and positioning/defensive IQ allow him to guard 1-4 effectively at the prep level and should project well to the college level as a versatile prospect that can make an immediate impact at that end of the floor. And the offensive capabilities as the primary playmaker for Massanutten this season show the massive leaps in development and growth that he’s taken over the last few seasons.

The top scorer in the EPL, Ruey Ruey was getting buckets on Friday afternoon, leading Massanutten to a tough conference victory and scoring 36 points in the process. A talented wing scorer, Ruey has a quick first step and hit shots both off the catch and dribble. Only holding a couple of offers, Ruey seems like one of the bigger sleepers in the country and a name who could blow up in the final few months of his high school career. If Ruey takes a jump as a quick decision maker, he could instantly be one of the toughest covers in whatever league he ends up in. his only offer in the past year is Vermont according to his personal twitter account.

One of the more undervalued prospects in the state, Ruey is a lanky wing with above average athleticism and a good feel for the game. The versatile senior is an improving shot maker who has much more productive during this senior season. His best basketball is ahead of him and college coaches at the Division I level will likely come calling in the next few months.

Van spotlighted Ruey in his report from the EPL event this weekend, but I’d be remiss if I kept him off this list considering he was one of the most productive and intriguing prospects I saw over the three days. With great positional size and plus length, Ruey left his fingerprints all over his team’s win over Western Reserve, boasting an impressive 30 points on just 7-of-11 from the floor and 10 rebounds to notch a double-double. It seemed like every other touch for Ruey was some sort of drive to the rim where he was able to draw contact for free-throws in which he finished 13-of-17 for the game. There are a few DI programs monitoring him, but I’m confused as to why there aren’t 3-to-5 fighting for his services when you consider the potential as his best basketball remains ahead of him.

Combining an elite motor, length, and defensive versatility, Ruey is a coach’s dream. The long-armed wing forward can defend virtually any spot on the floor for stretches, has an exceptionally quick second jump, and has a feathery touch that shows promise out to the 3-point line. Ruey had a high game of 30 points in the game against Western Reserve. Ruey’ is by far one of the top unsigned wings in the Northeast/Middle Atlantic Region. Coaches this young man is a legit Division 1 prospect.

Ruey does a little bit of everything for his Massanutten squad. He showed that he can score, be a playmaker, and rebound. He scored the ball in a slew of ways. He kept defenders on their toes when he spaced the floor with his perimeter shot-making. Ruey made trips to the charity stripe. He also showed that he can move the ball and made some nice passes. Ruey would be a great pickup at the MM-/LM+ level and would be a home run if he were to end up falling to the junior college ranks.

It doesn’t take long to recognize and appreciate the tough, rugged identity he brings to every possible setting. Ruey is a long, athletic, physically imposing wing with the size and skillset to operate in various different roles. He’s able to initiate the offense and get downhill at a consistent rate but can also knock down open jumpers. Ruey sees the floor well as a passer and applies terrific pressure in transition. He utilizes his length and athleticism to defend multiple positions, secure rebounds, and make hustle plays. Next in his development process is working on his shooting consistency, as it would make him a more complete player.

Ruey is very versatile and flashes on both ends of the floor with his game. Ruey uses his length to cover ground swiftly and switch easily. He provided a nice spark as a scorer. He keeps getting better with time and is a veteran leader on this Massanutten squad.
