City entered a gauntlet of a schedule starting this week that will hold ramification on their positioning for the city title as well as the Class 3A state title play. They passed the first test against one of the top teams in Howard County on Monday night against Marriotts Ridge only to face-off against a hot Dunbar squad on the second night of a back-to-back. The Knights fell down early and used the remainder of the game to claw their way back. It was Muhammad who led the effort in eventually upending the Poets 55-51 as he went for a game-high 22 points on a scorching 6-of-7 from three. What Muhammad lacks in size he makes up for with his tenacious competitiveness and last night that came in the fashion of NBA range three’s. It helped City improve to 15-2 on the season as their next three games come against Poly, Edmondson and Lake Clifton respectively.

Previous Ranking: Debut
-Muhammad spot-started for arguably the best team in the Baltimore City League and had a monster stretch for the Knights. The sophomore floor general lead his team in scoring, going for 20 points while shooting over 50% from 3. When the senior starter returned, he might have had his best performance of the year with a 23-point 10-rebound 7-assist night. Love the way that he gets into gaps in the defense and isn’t afraid to put his body on the line to draw fouls on the offensive or defensive side of the ball. If he can use his quickness to become a terror on the defensive end at the point of attack– his stock could really take off.

Muhammad is another small lead guard in Baltimore City who provides an entertaining game. His wiggle, command on the ball, and toughness that he brings to make up for the lack of size demands your respect. Making the transition to the city league where the physicality can be ramped up a notch or two will be a great test for Muhammad. Going up against other tough-nosed, aggressive guards such as Rountree will be a treat for those in attendance.

-Liked Muhammad’s feel in the open floor as an unselfish passer that makes the right pass at the right time to teammates. He threw a really nice 1-handed dime through traffic to the open cutter in transition, stopped on a dime for the floater off the window on the next possession, finished off a hop step pull up off two the next possession. Think he’s got nice feel as a lead guard that can vacillate well between distributing and scoring depending on the flow of the game. Want to see him use his IQ and quickness to develop into a high-level POA defender that can disrupt the flow of the game by forcing the ball out of the opponent’s point guard’s hands. Should be in for a huge role for the Knights this year in Baltimore City.
