It shouldn’t be taken for granted how dominant of a high school player Rondo is an an eighth grader, as he was the best player on the court to help North Oldham advance to the quarterfinals. Rondo knocked down four 3-pointers in quick succession, hitting shots with his feet set and when a defender went under a ball screen. Rondo’s two best highlights came off drives where he hung in the air and had incredible acrobatic layup finishes. A special talent, we’ll see if Rondo can lead North Oldham to the title while he’s still in middle school!

The eighth grader took over for North Oldham early in the game with multiple assists as a pick and roll ball handler before he knocked down multiple 3-pointers in the first quarter as North Oldham blitzed Woodford County out the gate. While a run was made by Woodford County, North Oldham never sacrificed their lead as Rondo had some tough left-handed finishes, showing the ability to attack going either direction on Monday night. Impressive performance by an eighth grader who is one of the best players on any varsity court he steps on.

Pierre has gotten more said and written about him than almost any player in America in this 2030 class. With all eyes on him, Pierre is having a really strong season for North Oldham. A volume scorer for the Mustangs, Rondo is averaging 12 points per game. If he becomes a better three point shooter, his ceiling is only going to get higher as his game and his body develop.

The growth in Rondo’s game from last year to this year is incredible as he’s now one of the more productive guards in the greater Louisville area despite still being in 8th grade. Rondo gets to the rim at will and uses advanced pace for his age to change directions and speed off the dribble. I also loved how Rondo was fearless in attacking the rim off the dribble and he hit some acrobatic layups through much taller rim protectors on Thursday.
