An outstanding athlete who also excels on the football field, Powers is headed to UW-Oshkosh and hopes to continue playing both football and basketball. He was outstanding for Columbus this winter, averaging 17.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.6 steals while helping his team to an 18-8 record. A two-sport standout for Columbus, Powers plans to play football and basketball at UW-Oshkosh next season. He finished his prep career in style Friday as he scored 17 points and made big shot after big shot in the second half to keep the Cardinals within striking distance of Luther Prep. Powers was particularly effective getting to the basket and driving the lane and then pulling up for mid-range jump shots. He has good elevation while going up with his jumper, which makes it difficult on opponents. Powers had 17 points in the game while also playing strong man-to-man defense for the Cardinals.

Peyton took over in his team’s first game of the weekend. His team only had five players available so Peyton was forced to play the entire game. He never looked fatigued and was a go-to scoring option from start to finish. He was a knock down shooter from beyond the arc and impressed me when getting to his spot in the mid-range. Powers was also able to use his strength and body control to finish through contact around the basket. He could attack the basket in isolation situations or run the floor for transition finishes.

Powers is a very well-rounded player. One thing that I really like about his game is his pace; he’s impossible to speed up and excels at his speed. He is a three-level scorer and is efficient going both right and left. Powers has a near picture-perfect jumper. Combine that with his great athleticism and he is able to shoot right over the top of defenders with virtually zero breathing room. He knows where he is most effective on the floor and he does well at finding those spots. Powers shows great confidence in his skills and is very poised.
