Northland is always going to have talented athletes with size and Mburugu is one of the top players in the Columbus City League. When you combine Mburugu’s frame, height and athleticism, you get a player who really looks the part. Finding some success in transition and on baseline cuts, Mburugu is at his best when he’s attacking towards the rim. A prospect who would be a solid target for a JUCO program, if Mburugu can start to consistently knock down shots he has the tools to be an impact college player.

I was pleasantly surprised by the offensive ability Mburugu showed on Friday with a tough step back 3-pointer late in the game really catching my eyes. With his physical upside and ability to fly around the court in a run and jump full court pressure defense, Mburugu was making an impact on both ends. Name to watch in the Columbus city league the next 2 years.

Another Columbus City League standout, Mburugu played on a very talented Northland team and found his niche as an energy piece who also could play in transition as an athlete. I also liked that Mburugu flashed some perimeter shooting ability as well. I’ll be curious to see how Mburugu expands as a player because his physical tools are quite intriguing and he plays with high energy as well. Name to watch in the Columbus City League over the next two seasons.

While the loss for Northland was disappointing, they’ll return a majority of their city league championship core next season including Mburugu who showed intriguing flashes on Sunday. With a good frame and nimble feet for his size, Mburugu has some physical tools to continue to develop in the off-season. Add in a high motor and workable jump-shot mechanics and Mburugu is a player who could take that sophomore to junior year leap a lot of players make when they start to become really confident in their abilities. This summer and fall will be huge for Mburugu to continue to develop as a prospect.
