Expert Analysis
Zy Adams | Prep Hoops Scout
Ballard lived above the rim. At 6’7, Ballard sprinted the floor, occupied the dunker spot, and turned simple passes into emphatic finishes. His athleticism constantly pulled help defenders into the paint, opening space for teammates and changing how opponents defended pick and roll actions.

Ballard was a solid contributor to a New Hanover team that made an appearance in the state championship last season and looks to have taken the next step in his development. He was one of the four Hanover players who finished in double digits and did a solid job of anchoring the defense. He finished a few easy baskets at the rim and threw down two nice dunks in transition, including a lob that brought the crowd to their feet.

Every time I’ve seen Ballad this summer, he’s looked more impressive, during the ECI he showed the skill set of a solid college prospect. Known for his ability to rebound and bang around him around offensively he stepped out and knocked down a few jump shots out to the three-point line. New Hanover lost a lot of talent to graduation so expect a big season from their senior forward.

The big man should see a high amount of time and production this season as New Hanover looks for a new identity after the graduation of a high number of their players. In their matchup against South Meck, he was very active on both sides of the ball, scoring inside the paint offensively while blocking shots on the defensive end.

Ballard is an emerging prospect to get to know out of New Hanover as he moves into 59th in the latest rankings market corrections. He’s a big man to get to know with Garner Road National this spring/summer, given his activity in the paint and around the rim on both ends of the floor. He’s a quick-twitch athlete who can finish with authority and block shots in bunches. He’s a long, active big man for DI and DII programs to get on their radar given his continued development.

After a limited role on an upperclassman-laden team that clinched two consecutive trips to the state championship game, the 6’8 forward is finally coming into his own. He’s been active around the basket offensively finishing around the basket at an extremely high level and doing a solid job defensively contesting and throwing away shots at the rim. One to track for the remainder of the summer for sure.

Ballard is an athletic forward prospect who’s really coming along in the New Hanover High frontcourt. He’s averaging 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest as he continues to improve around the rim on both ends. Given his underrated athleticism and budding game, look for him to turn some heads very soon.
