Payne has been on a scoring tear this season putting up big offensive numbers at the point guard position. He can hit every shot in the book as he is averaging a monster 24 ppg. He is nearly impossible to stay in front of with the ball in his hands because of his speed, quick handles, and decision-making. Payne will get you double-digit assists in his sleep while being his team’s main scorer. In his last two games, he has scored 34 points in both games.

Payne is a quick and electric guard with the ball in his hands. He has tight and crafty handles he uses to create lots of space in his shots. He can get into the paint whenever he wants and can finish with both hands around the rim while hanging in the air longer than normal. Payne has a smooth jump shot from behind the arc and midrange with his release needing very little space to get it off. His timing in getting steals is excellent when guarding perimeter players.

Payne seems to be able to score the basketball in his sleep with how he moves. He can seemingly take on any defender and he will more than likely get by them. His tight and shifty handles allow him to get anywhere on the court. His pull-up midrange game is near perfect as he has a bunch of different moves he will go to to catch his defender off guard. Payne’s finishing ability is smooth with him completing some athletic finishes around the rim.

Payne is great at knowing when to trap players forcing them into tough situations leading to many turnovers. His quick hands allow him to come up with lots of steals. Payne’s lateral movement gives him the ability to be on an island comfortably when guarding a skilled ball handler or shooter. He likes the challenge of guarding isolation plays. His contests are very effective causing for lots of misses leading to easy transition points.

Payne is a lightning-quick guard that can get up and down the court in a blink of an eye. He uses this speed to score at will once he’s in transition and is hard to pick up from a defensive standpoint. Payne’s tight and under-control handles allow him to get anywhere on the court and any shot he wants. He has got excellent vision to find his teammates leaking out for the easier basket.

Payne is a scoring machine and one that will take and make any shot he wants. He is very quick off the dribble pairing that with his tight and crafty handles makes it hard to stay in front of him. Payne is excellent at hitting pull-up and fadeaway shots. He can get into the paint and finish over taller defenders. Payne is great at finishing through contact and drawing fouls. He had a big jump this past year and will look to have a bigger one going into next season.

Payne is the literal definition of a shot creator or shot maker. He can hit all of the shots including the tough contested ones. Payne is a nightmare to match up against in the midrange as his pull-up shot is near impossible to guard. He has an excellent ball fake that he sells nicely. His ability to finish at the rim strong through the whistle is what makes him a true 5-tool player. Payne will also hurt you with the pull-up transition three-point shot.
