The point guards in this class are filled with talent looking to make big leaps heading into their senior seasons. Here are my top point guards for the 2024 class part II.
Payne is a quick and electric guard with the ball in his hands. He has tight and crafty handles he uses to create lots of space in his shots. He can get into the paint whenever he wants and can finish with both hands around the rim while hanging in the air longer than normal. Payne has a smooth jump shot from behind the arc and midrange with his release needing very little space to get it off. His timing in getting steals is excellent when guarding perimeter players.
Highlights
Robinson plays with a lot of finesse and shiftiness in his game as he has the speed to pair along with great decision-making at the point guard spot. His handles are tight which makes it difficult for defenders to strip the ball from him. His passing ability is elite seemingly making the correct read every play. He likes to create space with his handles while also looking to run pick-n-rolls to create mismatches. Robinson can get to the rim at will and can do some impressive athletic finishes.
Schmid likes to play fast and downhill with the ball in his hands as he controls the offense. He draws so much attention from defenses especially when he uses his effective hop-step move in the paint. He can draw double teams from that move and can kick it out to open shooters on the perimeter. The lefty has a quick shot from downtown and creates lots of space with his speed and handles. His finishing game is as good as anyone in his class with the ability to get the ball up over taller defenders no matter the situation.
Frauenheim is a player that dominates in all aspects of the game especially on offense with how he can score the basketball. He gets his shots up in a hurry and has a smooth release that needs minimal room to get off. His range is deep and must be guarded the second he passes the half-court line. Frauenheim has excellent decision making knowing when to hit the open teammate. His midrange game is elite and he can get to the rim at will and is not afraid to challenge anyone.
McNeil is a bucket-getter and can score the basketball in so many different ways. He has a high and quick release on his shot and can shoot well beyond the three-point line. McNeil can get into the heart of the lane almost every possession and can do some creative moves around the basket to create that extra space for the layup. He will run pick-n-rolls and pick-n-pops to not only get himself open but also to get his teammates open shots as well.
