Over two varsity games this week, he delivered dominant, high-efficiency performances while logging heavy minutes and controlling the game on both ends of the floor. In a Jan. 9 matchup against BTW, he powered his team with 25 points and 17 rebounds, adding a steal and a block while shooting an outstanding 9-of-13 from the field in 41 minutes. Earlier in the week on Jan. 6 versus Huntington, he was just as steady, posting 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, shooting 50 percent from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line with zero turnovers in 33 minutes. Across both games, he totaled 44 points, 25 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block while shooting roughly 61 percent from the field and nearly 79 percent from the line.

Niran Ogunyemi is a guard who possesses a unique edge that sets him apart from many prospects I observed during the 2025 Prep Hoops Circuit. His defensive prowess is evident in his ability to disrupt the opposition’s flow, leading to turnovers. Additionally, in transition, Niran is a threat to fill out the lanes, making him a formidable opponent in those situations. When he had the chance to finish at the basket, he performed well by finishing strongly through contact. From the perimeter, he can knock down looks if given enough room at times. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him play with intense passion during the minutes he was on the court.
What Next for Niran?

Ogunyemi has developed into a well-rounded player and is poised for a breakout season as a leading scorer for Captain Shreve. He has established himself as a consistent three-point shooter and has refined his handle, making him a dangerous downhill threat. Last year, he played a utility role, but his responsibilities are expected to increase significantly as he takes on a larger offensive load. With his all-around skill set and leadership potential, he is likely to be the focal point for Shreve and will definitely attract interest from coaches at the next level.

Niran Ogunyemi is a true competitor while he’s on the floor and you can tell just by watching him play. He shows his competitive nature by making winning plays on both ends of the floor. He impacts the game in so many ways especially defensively. Defensively he disrupts opposing ball handlers with his strong frame forcing them into turnovers or bad decisions. He had an intensity to his game that I don’t think many opposing players were ready for matching up with him. Offensively, Niran plays well off two feet in the lane when driving to the basket in half court situations. Then when on a fast break he will be the main player leaking out for easy opportunities in transition for his Owe 17u team. I expect Niran to keep up the same play for his senior season coming up soon!

Niran is enjoying a standout summer, significantly enhancing his skill set by incorporating the three-point shot into his offensive game. It’s evident that he has been putting in the work, as his shooting has become one of his primary weapons. With a steady handle, he avoids wasting dribbles while efficiently getting to his spots. When he catches the ball at the three-point line, you can count it as a bucket. Additionally, Niran is an elite defender who generates scoring opportunities by causing turnovers and finishing at the rim with either hand, even through contact. He consistently makes the necessary plays for winning basketball. Calling him under rated is an understatement. As a stock riser to keep an eye on, he is definitely one to watch this summer.

is a true stock riser in the state, and his hard work on the court is a key factor in Captain Shreve’s reputation as one of the toughest teams in the state. As a three-level scorer, Niran is a versatile threat, but it’s his defensive prowess and high-IQ basketball that truly set him apart. Despite being an undersized forward on a team with a bunchof feisty guards, Niran is strong enough to hold his own, and his ability to handle the ball and shoot from beyond the arc makes him a valuable asset.
What’s more, Niran’s energy and strong frame allow him to move laterally with ease, enabling him to play effectively in the guard position. He’s a winner, a hard worker, and a 100% competitor who doesn’t wait for others to bring the intensity – he’s fully invested in the game from the opening tip. Niran is the type of player who does all the small things that don’t always show up in the box score, but are crucial to a team’s success. His work ethic, competitiveness, and intelligence make him a valuable contributor to Captain Shreve’s success, and a player who is sure to continue rising up the ranks.
