JD can control a game with his defense, but on this high intensity night, he put on his scoring hat. Huntington struggled to score, but he was aggressive and scored at will. It was interesting to watch him play the game as aggressively on offense as he does on defense which could be an added dynamic to this Huntington team. JD is an elite player that never takes off a play. He doesn’t cheat the game and sometimes catches bad defensive breaks in today’s game where tough defense is rewarded with touch fouls. Either way, you know what you are getting with McDonald. A dawg fight.

Ejayden McDonald is one of the toughest guards in the deep 2026 class. He could be the missing piece for numerous teams due to his versatility and ability to contribute in multiple ways. As a leader, he orchestrates both the offense and defense with a high motor and strong basketball IQ, playing within the limits of the game. A skilled scorer, he excels at finishing at the rim, effortlessly finding seams in the offense and being an elite finisher with both hands. Easily a Top 5 defender in the state, he makes opposing guards work hard for every play. An elite player, McDonald is sure to play at the collegiate level.

McDonald is the best defensive point guard in north Louisiana. His ball pressure creates extra offensive opportunities for the Gators numerous times a game. McDonald is very good at surveying the court and looking for areas to attack. When he does attack, he takes hits well and either finishes or goes to the charity stripe. When it comes to man-to-man defense, he is as good as it gets.
