He has made plenty of noise over the past few months, particularly with his performances at Section 7 and the Nevada Live Invitational. Carter is a certified bucket getter who can attack the rim through traffic or pull up from beyond the arc. He also gets it done on the defensive end, never giving his matchup much room to operate. Overall, Carter is a strong two-way player who looks ready for a productive junior season.

Mekhi Carter Mekhi Carter 6'0" | CG/PG Legacy | 2028 State NV has made a near seamless transition over to Legacy. He is a very dynamic guard who simply reads the defense and makes the right play. If there’s an opportunity to burn his matchup, he will. But if his defender is sagging off him too much, he can also make them pay with his three-point shooting. The attention he draws also opens the door for his teammates to score easy buckets. Beyond what he provides on offense, he’ll also poke the ball away and come up with steals, which can lead to transition opportunities for the Longhorns.

The 6’0″ PG is as pure as it gets in Nevada if you’re looking for a point guard to run your sets, keep the floor spaced, and attack gaps to create easy buckets. He’s a floor general that keeps the game simple for himself and for his team by doing most of the work for them, and doing it decisively. He gets downhill at will with his crazy speed and strength before kicking it out, dumping it off, or keeping it himself for a floater or lay. His middy was automatic all weekend and his 3-ball wasn’t far behind. I love the way he plays for his team and keeps a level headed approach to every situation presented to him in games. With his move to Legacy HS, it’s safe to say he’ll have a breakout season this winter where he shakes things up in the hoop scene.

I got the chance to watch Mekhi in his new Legacy Longhorn threads with his new teammates. He showcased exactly why he is a big addition to this team by playing with such poise and purposeful patience. He got a paint touch whenever he wanted to make the opposing low-man help, leading to easy drop offs to whoever was waiting at the dunker spot. Any time the help didn’t come, he took it himself for easy lay-ups. His speed and pace was a real problem for the opposing defense to control.

I already knew going into the Combine and Showcase that Carter had some bounce, and he put it on full display. Leaping 40 inches during the Max Vert testing. He is a rare high school prospect who already holds offers in both basketball and football, making him a well-rounded athlete overall. Expect him to utilize his hops to throw down dunks throughout the AAU season.

He keeps his head up when he has the rock and will throw it ahead if a teammate is open. He can also get downhill and kick it out or drop it off from there. Beyond his passing skills, he got into the paint and scored. Carter also wasn’t easy to get around on defense, as he stayed active with his hands. All in all, he played the right way, and other coaches besides me took notice.

Mekhi Carter Mekhi Carter 6'0" | CG/PG Legacy | 2028 State NV rounds out the top 10. He is an incredibly shifty guard who can shake defenders or euro step around them to score. He also has a mid-range shot that he gets to and is a threat from beyond the arc. Carter gets after it on the defensive end as well, capable of picking his opponent’s pocket or jumping in a passing lane. From there, he can push the pace to jumpstart the offense or take it all the way himself and slam it home. With his upside, he may turn some heads again with LV United.

On offense, he utilized his driving ability, court vision, and finishing skills to fill up the stat sheet. He also connected on a pair of 3-pointers, helping the Pioneers widen their lead in the second quarter. On defense, Carter jumped into passing lanes and collected at least three steals. Overall, it was an impressive showing from the Canyon Springs sophomore.

He also knows to protect the rock until the very last second and he makes tough finishes often. As a defender, Carter utilizes his lateral quickness and instincts to make plays on the ball.

He did what he does, and got to the rack consistently with both his left and right hand. Then he started to pour in shots from 3 point land. Including a clever behind the back move off the dribble into his shot, that he swished in. Carter had 20 points at the very least, and his efforts also helped LV United get the win.
